Texas's Cara Neir has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of post black metal and crust and this is a review of their album "Portals To A Better, Dead World" which will be released in 2024 by Fiadh Productions.
A very heavy post punk influenced sound starts off the album along with some high pitched black metal screams a few seconds later. Elements of crust can also be heard in the mid tempo sections of the songs while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. When guitars and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Clean playing, synths stringed and death metal growls can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as some clear vocals and spoken word parts also being added on the closing song. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover science fiction and post apocalyptic themes.
In my opinion this is another decent sounding recording from m Cara Neir and if you are a fan of black emtal, crust and post punk, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Closing Doors" and "3,380 Pounds". 8 out of 10.
