Quebec, Canada's Délétère has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a raw, melodic and epic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Songes d'une Nuit Souillée" which will b e released on November 23rd by Sepulchral Productions.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also add in a lot of melody and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
When synths are utilized they also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling while melodic choirs can also be heard in certain sections of the recording. During the faster sections of the songs a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can b e heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling.
Spoken word samples can also be heard briefly along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length. Growls are also added into some parts of the album as well as one track also being an instrumental. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover pestilence, perversion and blasphemy thmes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Délétère and if you are a fan of atmospheric, epic, melodic and raw black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE " Sacre de la Perversion" " Messe Scandaleuse" and "La Nuit Souillée". 8 out of 10.
