Sigh Of Defeat are a duo from San Diego, California that plays a very dissonant form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Immortal Black Flame" which will b e released on November 23rd by Malevolent Sound.
Clean playing starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. Vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams while melodies are also added into the heavier riffing at times and when t he music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can b e heard.
At times the music also gets very dissonant sounding while the solos and leads also expand more into this direction. All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the tremolo picking in the fast riffing also giving the album more of a raw feeling when they are utilized, whispered vocals, synths and soundscapes can also be heard briefly and most of the album sticks to a slower direction.
Sigh Of Defeat plays a style of black metal that is very dissonant sounding yet very different from most bands of this genre. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover existential philosophy.
In my opinion Sigh Of Defeat are a very great sounding dissonant black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nazareth Inversion" and "Immortal Black Flame". 8 out of 10.
