Russia's solo project Drunemeton has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for an atmospheric, epic, raw and symphonic style of pagan black metal and this is a review of his album "Tir Nan Og" which will be released in 2024 by Heidens Hart.
Spoken word parts, field recordings and chanting vocal samples start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams and the keyboards also take the music into more of an epic, atmospheric and symphonic direction.
A lot of the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's era while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with one track also introducing clean playing and folk instruments onto the album.
When tremolo picking is added into the guitar riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling along with some nature sounds and war samples also being added into certain sections of the recording as well as some blast beats also being utilized briefly when the album finally speeds up and when guitar solos and leads are introduced on the album they are also done in a very melodic style. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Celtic Paganism, Myths, History and their role in modern life.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Drunemeton and if you are a fan of atmospheric, epic, raw and symphonic pagan black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Tir Nan Og" "The White Ship" and "Haven in Flames". 8 out of 10.
