This is a review of another recording from Scotland's solo project Liminalanimal which shows the music going for an atmospheric and depressive mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of his self released 2023 album "The Furies And Futility".
A very heavy, melodic and melancholic doom metal sound starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording. Vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams and the solos and leads also add in a great amount of melody.
When the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the recording also has its atmospheric moments. Some of the slow riffing also shows an influence of the more melodic side of 90's era doom/death metal mixed in with a more modern style along with one song also introducing clean playing onto the album.
On this recording Liminalanimal expands on his atmospheric and depressive mixture of black and doom metal by shortening the songs and adding in more fast and mid tempo sections. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover nature and existence themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Liminalanimal and if you are a fan of atmospheric and depressive black and doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fall on Your Sword" and "Vae Victis". 8 out of 10.
