Italy's Voltumna as returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their self released ep "For Death Is Fate" which will be released in 2024.
A very tribal orientated sound starts off the ep before going into a heavier direction while the vocals also bring in a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls. When the music speeds up a great amount of brutal sounding blast beats can also be heard and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
When tremolo picking is added into the fat riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Symphonic sounds can also be heard in certain sections of the riffing along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized and clean playing , chants, clear vocals and spoken word parts are also added on the closing track.
On this recording Voltumna expand on their mixture of black and death metal as well as adding in more melodic and symphonic influences which shows some progress from previous releases. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover native folklore, forgotten civilizations, imaginary legends and apocryphal transcripts.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Voltumna and if you are a fan of black and death metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Black Science" and "All'Infinito". 8 out of 10.
