Astral Spectre are a solo project from Germany that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording goes for a mixture of black, heavy metal and occult rock and this is a review of his 2024 album "Ars Notoria" which was released by Northern Silence Productions.
Melodic guitar solos and leads start off the album while both the riffs and solos are heavily influenced by the NWOBHM era. Vocals a r e mostly grim black emtal screams along with the music also mixing in a lot of first wave elements and mixing it with a more modern take on the genre.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the riffs also add in a lot of melody. The songs also mix in a lot of 70's rock touches while also mixing in organs that are heavily influenced by that era as well as having their psychedelic moments, clean playing can also be heard on a few tracks.
Some of the songs also being very long and epic in length along with most of the music sticking to either a slow or mid tempo direction and as the recording progresses a brief use of clarinets, bass flutes and spoken word parts are also added into the music. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and Magick themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Astral Spectr and if you are a fan of black, heavy metal and occult rock, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gypsy Witch" "A Sign in the Sky" and "Sigil Of Zagan". 8 out of 10.
