San Francisco, California's Botanist has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for an anvant garde and experimental form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Paleobotany" which will be released in may by Prophecy Productions.
A very heavy yet avant garde sound starts off the album while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. Clear singing is also a very huge part of the album along with some of the songs also mixing in a good amount of clean post rock style sections.
When t he music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats are also utilized while the music also has its progressive moments. Black metal screams and death metal growls can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording along with the songs also mixing in a lot of melody along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Throat singing can also be heard briefly along with the music also being very heavy for not utilizing traditional metal instruments. Keyboards are also utilized quite a bit throughout the album. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the era of the dinosaurs and early forests.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Botanist and if you are a fan of avant garde and experimental post black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Aristolochia" "The Impact That Built The Amazon" "Strychnos Electri" and "Royal Protea". 8 out of 10.
