Norway's Darkthrone has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of black, doom, death, thrash metal and punk and this is a review of their 2024 album "It Beckons us All" which was released by Peaceville Records.
Synths start off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic direction while some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Vocals bring in more of a first wave black metal style along with the slower sections of the songs also adding in elements of doom metal and the riffs also mix in touches of thrash metal.
A lot of the music takes an 80's style and mixes it in with a more modern sound while also capturing the heaviness of old school death metal at times. Some of the guitar riffing also captures the raw energy of punk rock along with some clear vocals also being utilized on a few songs,.
when guitar solos and leads are finally introduced into the music they are done in a very melodic yet old school style along with the synths also returning on some of the later tracks as well as one song also being an instrumental, clean playing is also added on the closing track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness and existential themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Darkthrone and if you are a fan of their recent material, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Howling Primitive Colonies" and "The Lone Pins Of The Lost Planet". 8 out of 10.
