Wyoming Toad are a solo project from Ohio that plays a mixture of atmospheric black, doom metal, blackgaze and ambient and this is a review of his 2024 album "Mud Devil" which will be released in July by Fiadh Productions.
Dark sounding percussion starts off the album before going into a heavier direction while the slower sections of the songs also bring in elements of doom metal. When synths are utilized they also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Touches of ambient can also be heard at times while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Some of the tracks are also instrumentals along with all of the drum beats also being programmed as well as the album also adding in a lot of shoegaze influences, clean playing can also be heard briefly and the whole recording also sticks to a slower direction.
Wyoming Toad plays a musical style that takes atmospheric black, doom metal, blackgaze and ambient and mixes them together to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and lo-fi while the lyrics cover salamanders.
In my opinion Wyoming Toad are a very great sounding mixture of atmospheric black metal, blackgaze, doom metal and ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Limestone Lair" "Light-Sensitive Cells" "Egg Guardian" and "Dead indicators". 8 out of 10.
