Finland's Chephreon have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of black, thrash and speed metal and this is a review of their self released 2024 album "Dark Tales From The Deep Lakes".
A very heavy thrash metal sound starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the riffs also add in a lot of melody along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the songs also mix in elements of 80's era speed metal. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with one track also adding in a brief use of classical guitars,
When tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the songs more of a raw feeling along with one track also adding in a brief use of clean playing, clear vocals are also added in the background briefly, a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and some of the vocals also add in more of an old school thrash metal approach. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cove r Occultism and Darkness themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Chephreon and if you are a fan of black, thrash and speed metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Misanthropic Nights" "Raging Waters, Violent Skies" and "Colors". 8 out of 10.
