Nattfly are a solo project from Sweden that plays a violin orientated from form of black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Sånger för den kalla modern" which will be re-issued in March 2025 as a joint effort between War Productions and Black Flame Alliance.
Acoustic violins start off the album before going into a heavier direction with distorted violins taking the place of electric guitars. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also add in a lot of blast beats and the music also captures the rawness of the old school era.
A lot of the music is very heavily rooted in t he 90's Nordic tradition while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with some melodies also being utilized at times and elements of folk music are also mixed in with the more heavier and distorted side of the album.
Nattfly plays a style of black metal that captures the rawness and heaviness of 90's era Scandinavian focusing more on an electric violin taking the place of a traditional electric guitar. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover animistic ritual, spiritual struggles and nightmares.
In my opinion Nattfly are a very great sounding violin orientated black emtal solo project and if you are looking for something that is very different yet aggressive at the same time, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Vinterjord" "Fullbordan" and "Vaven". 8 out of 10.
