Olde Scratch are a solo project from Ohio that plays a very experimental form of occult black metal and this is a review of his self released 2025 album "It Hath Descended".
A very experimental and avant garde sounds starts off the album along with some synths a few seconds later. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the music also incorporates the use of a guitar synth as well as all of the drum beats also being programmed and noises are utilized at times.
Atmospheric sounding drones can also be heard at times while blast beats can be heard when the music speeds up. At times the music also goes into more of a ritualistic direction along with a couple of the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and most of the album focuses more on a mid tempo direction.
Olde Scratch plays style of occult black metal that is very experimental sounding as well as avoiding the standard metal style and adding in elements of drone and noise to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover the mythology of Mesopotamia.
In my opinion Olde Scratch are a very great sounding experimental occult black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Primitive Idolatry" "Eternal lament Of Uttukku" and "Cuneiform Incantation". 8 out of 10.
