Empalamento are a duo from Portugal that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2025 ep "Ordem da Estaca" which will be released on June 10th by Haloran Records.
A synth orientated intro starts off the ep while voices can also be heard in the background before going into a heavier direction and keeping the synths. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era. A lot of the recording also sounds like it could of easily been recorded and released more then 30 years ago along with a couple of tracks also adding in a small amount of spoken words as well as some songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in more of an old school direction along with one track also being an instrumental and adding in a brief use of nature sounds and acoustic guitars, a small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Portuguese and cover the Black Arts, Vlad The Impaler and the darkest side of the human being.
In my opinion Empalamento are a very great sounding old school black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "O Sangue Enscorre" and "Ascencoa Obscura". 8 out of 10.
