The Fifth Alliance are a band from the Netherlands that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of post black, sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their 2026 album "Stenahoria" which will be released in May as a joint effort between Tartarus Records. Breathe and Ardua Music.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and the slower sections of the songs also add in elements of sludge and doom metal.
Clean playing can also be heard at times while some of the tracks also add in a small amount of clear singing. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic post metal style along with the album also having its atmospheric moments, throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some tracks also adding in growls.
On this recording The Fifth Alliance takes an atmospheric form of post black metal and mixes it with sludge and doom metal to create a very heavy and dark release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover human experiences of fear, sorrow and confinement.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from The Fifth Alliance and if you are a fan of post black, sludge and doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Phoenix" and "Jacob". 8 out of 10.
