Les Bâtards du Roi are a band from France that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording goes for a very melodic and medieval form of black metal and this is a review of t heir 2026 ep "Ici Muert ma Joie" which will b e released in October by les Actteurs de L'Ombre Productions.
Synths and clean playing start off the ep before going into a heavier direction while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the ep also adds in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. At times the music also captures a very medieval atmosphere along with the riffs also adding in a lot of melody and clear male and female vocals are also utilized on a few tracks.
On this recording Les Bâtards du Roi continue to expand on the melodic and medieval style of black metal that they introduced on their previous release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in French and is a concept album covering a medieval universe involving a journey of introspection with some touches of fantasy.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Les Bâtards du Roi and if you are a fan of melodic and medieval black metal, you should c heck out t his ep. RECOMMEND TRACK "Et la Nuit s’éternise". 8 out of 10.
