Spere/Blotters In Saline Waters/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Spere  are  a  duo  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on this  recording  goes  for  a  psychedelic  maritime  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2026  album  "Blotters  In  Saline  Waters"  which  will  be  released  in  October.

  Synths  which  also  adds  in  some  psychedelic  touches  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  and  during  the  faster  parts  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  most  of  the  album  focuses  more  on  a  slower  or  mid  tempo  direction.  A  lot  of the  music  focuses  more  on  a  modern  style  of  the  genre  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

   A  couple  of  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clear  singing  and  they  also  add  in  a  brief  instrumental  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  along  with  some melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Obsolescence  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Spere  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  psychedelic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Those  Rations  Come  Foul"  "Our  Days  Are  Dripping  From  the  Drums"  and  "This  is  The  End".  8 out  of  10.
