Avulse are a 1 man band from Maine that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style that combines raw and primitive sounding black metal with d beat and punk and this is a review of their 2012 album "We Are All Code" which was released by Broken Limb Recordings.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being utilized at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast riffs that combine raw and primitive sounding black metal with d beat and crust together to create a sound of their own with some melodic riffing, while the lead guitars are very old school sounding punk rock guitar solos and leads.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with some clean singing punk rock vocals being used on one song, while the lyrics cover reality and everyday themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it in the true old school black metal tradition.
In my opinion this another great recording from Avulse and if you are a fan of punk influenced primitive black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Flames Of Liberty" "Veteran's Day" "Black Denim" and "We Are All Code". RECOMMENDED BUY.
