Dodsfard are a band from Sweden that plays a very raw and primitive form of black metal with lo-fi and post rock elements and this is a review of their self released 2013 ep "Demo I".
"A Land Of Decay" starts off with a slow post black metal lead, slow drums and low end black metal vocals before going into a more mid paced direction and adding in black metal guitar riffs while also maintaining the post elements of the beginning and around the 3 minute mark shoegaze soundscapes make their way in the song and closes it.
"Bound To The Flesh" starts off with a slow drum beat and black metal melodies coming from the guitars and then it is silent for a few seconds before powerful sound effects kick in along with some black metal riffs and trash can style percussion which gets faster and darker as the song moves on while also slowing down at times.
"The Treachery Of Mankind" starts off with some drum beat, melodic and atmospheric black guitar guitar riffs before speeding up, adding in a blast beat as well as going into a more mid paced direction while also going back to the slow and fast parts at times.
"As The Dark Sun Rises" starts off with a slow old school black metal riff along with some drum beats before going into a faster and more primitive direction which also brings up the grim screams and blast beats and close to the 3 minute mark the song slows down while still maintaining a primitive sound.
"Death" starts off with a slow, old school and dark sounding black metal riff along with some drum beats which sets up the pace for a brief guitar lead and then the blast beats kick in as well as some fast and primitive guitar riffing for a few seconds before reverting back to the slow sound of the beginning while also mixing in some melody this time around.
"Forest" starts off with clean playing from the guitars before the distortion and drum beats kick in and the song gets more dark and melodic with a lot of traditional old school black metal sounds which sets up the pace for the blast beats, fast and primitive guitar riffs which shortly go more into a mid paced direction after that and adding in a melodic post metal guitar lead and the song closes with the faster parts and clean playing.
Songs themes and lyrics on the demo cover darkness, while the production has a very dark, old school, raw and primitive sound and you can not hear the bass playing on this recording.
In my opinion Dodsfard are a very great sounding raw and primitive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bound To The Flesh" and "Death". RECOMMENDED BUY.
