Lonesummer are a 1 man band from Pennsylvania that plays a mixture of raw black metal, post rock and noise and this is a review of their 2009 demo "What We Were" which was released by Starlight Temple Society".
"The Ones Who Grab Mt Hand, The Lost Souls" starts off with harsh noise elements, drum blast beats and high pitched black metal/noisecore screams and as the song moves on you can hear clean singing lounge jazz vocals in the background along with some musical instruments.
"Lone Tree Hill" starts off with synths before the noise effects make their way into the song which leads to the drum blast beats and high pitched black metal screams.
"Long Winter Way" starts off with soft synths and acoustic guitars which bring in post rock elements before the drums kick in along with full chord that add avant garde elements to the music and then goes into a distorted guitar lead.
"Making Life Taste A Little Sour" starts off with drum beats, noise sound effects and spoken word samples and there is not much in the way of variety present on this song.
"The Stars On Our Fingers" starts off with some avant garde sound effects and tribal percussion before drifting off into blast beats, raw black metal bass riffs and grim screams and closing with some synths.
"We All Looked So Perfect" starts off with noise effects and drone style guitar riffs and distortion with no variety being present.
"What We Were" starts off with noise effects, raw balck metal riffs, high pitched screams along with some drums and after a while the sound gets more clean and spoken word samples make their presence known in the song and then the guitars come back in the song as well as the screams.
Lyrics on the demo cover solitude, family and life, while the production has a very raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Lonesummer are a very great sounding hybrid of raw black metal, post rock and noise and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should c heck out this project.
