In Human Form are a band from Lowell, Massachusetts that plays a progressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2008 ep "Chapters I-IV" which was self released in 2008.
"Abdication Of An Insidious Existence" which is also the first song on the ep opens up with drum beats before adding in fast black metal guitar riffs which also utilize some melody along with a good amount of blast beats which also leads up to some progressive metal guitar solos that come in and out of the song before adding in high pitched screams and halfway through the song the music starts alternating between mid paced and fast parts.
''Realm Of Our Asphyxiated Desires" begins with slow and melodic sounding black metal guitar riffs and drums and after awhile the music speeds up along with some high pitched screams as well as a good amount of blast beats which also leads up to some guitar leads and solos that come in and out as well as alternating between slow and fast parts as well as a brief use of death metal growls.
"Transience" opens up with drum beats before adding in some heavy and melodic black metal guitar riffs along with some deep death metal growls and then the music goes into a faster direction a long with some blast beats and black metal screams and then the music starts to alternate between slow and fast parts along with a brief use of spoken word parts and toward s the end the bass guitars get more powerful sounding along with a small amount of guitar leads.
"The Laureate Becomes the Flesh" which is also the last song on the ep begins with thrash influenced guitar riffs and drums and then t h e music goes into a more fast, melodic black metal direction along with some high pitched screams and then alternating between slow and fast parts as well as bringing in a brief use of death metal growls as well as a small amount of blast beats and during the last minute of the song there is a brief use of guitar solos and leads.
Song lyrics cover misanthropy and death, while the production has a very strong and powerful sound for being a self released recording with the bass playing has a very dark tone that is mixed down low in the mix as well as a couple of songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion In Human Form are a very great sounding progressive black metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Realm Of Our Asphyxiated Desires" and "The Laureate Becomes the Flesh". RECOMMENDED BUY.
