This is a review of another recording from In Human Form which continues their progressive approach to black metal with the album being self released in 2013 and called "Earthen Urn".
"Cognitive Reconaissance" which is also the first song on the album opens up with avant garde style sound effects and synths before adding in heavy and melodic sounding guitar riffs and drums as well as speeding up a bit and adding blast beats in certain sections of the song which also leads up to some high pitched black metal screams and then the music starts alternating between mid paced and fast parts, as the song moves on it starts adding in more progressive elements as well as adding in guitar solos and leads that come in and out of the song.
"Abdication Of An Insidious Existence (MMXII)" begins with drums before adding in fast and melodic guitar riffs along with some blast beats from the drums and a few seconds later you can hear bass guitars as well as the music slowing down and adding in guitar solos and leads that come in and out of the song before alternating between fast and slow parts as well a s bringing in high pitched screams and after awhile a small amount of clean guitars and progressive elements become a part of the song.
"Prisms Of Now" opens up with nature sounds along with some ambient style synths as well as elements of noise and the music is all instrumental with no vocals or any metal instruments being present on the song.
"Sad Presentiments Of What Must Come To Pass" starts up with heavy, melodic and progressive sounding guitar and bass riffs along with some drums which also leads up to guitar solos that come in and out of the song and after a couple of minutes the music speeds up with some blast beats as w ell as some high pitched black metal screams before alternating between mid paced and fast parts, as the song moves on acoustic guitars start to take over t he music for awhile along with saxophones and a minute alter the music goes back to its heavier roots and the song closes with psychedelic sounds.
"The Entity In Identity" kicks in with acoustic guitars which are in the progressive rock vein and a minute later heavy and melodic guitar riffs kick in along with some drums and after awhile you can hear the bass guitars along with some guitar leads that come in and out of the music and then the high pitched black metal screams kick in, as the song moves on it starts alternating between fast and slow parts as well as bringing in blast beats and a small amount of death metal influences and after awhile you can hear elements of traditional metal kicking in and towards the end the music returns back to the acoustic guitars and progressive sound.
''Fragmented Reflections Shimmer In The Shards of Shattered Mirrors" which is also the last song on the album begins with heavy and melodic sounding guitar and bass riffs along with some drums and a couple of minutes later the music goes into a faster direction along with some blast beats and black metal screams before alternating between slow and fast parts a s well as adding in some
progressive metal guitar solos and leads that come in and out of the music, and halfway through the song there is a brief use of samples before returning back to the heavier parts which also later mix in with some synths, a few minutes later acoustic guitars take over the music for awhile before going back to its heavier roots and the song closes with a mixture of clean and heavy guitars..
Song lyrics cover misanthropy and dark themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound for being a self released recording where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording as well as most of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from In Human Form and if you are a fan of progressive black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cognitive Reconaissance" and "The Entity In Identity". RECOMMENDED BUY.
