Serpents Lair are a band from Denmark that plays a very dark, occult and raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2014 demo which was released by Fallen Empire Records.
A very dark, slow and heavy sound starts off the demo and after a minute the music starts to speed up along with some blast beats and angry black metal vocals that have a sound of their own to them and after awhile melodies are added into the music and they also give the recording a French black metal feeling.
There is a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts being utilized in both of the tracks and the vocals use both deep and high pitched screams and on the second track the band adds in a small amount of ambient sounds before returning back to a heavier direction as well as displaying a great amount of talent and skill with their musical sound while also having the rawness of black metal.
Serpents Lair creates a very interesting approach to black metal with these 2 songs and they also show they know their musical instruments very well, the production has a very dark and raw sound while the lyrics cover occult themes.
In my opinion Serpents Lair are a very great sounding occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Epistemology Of Death". 8 out of 10.
