Abigor are a band from Austria that has been around for more than 20 years and has been featured before in this zine and plays an atmospheric form of satanic black metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Leytmotif Lucifer" which was released by Avantgarde Music.
A very dark and distorted sound starts off the album before going the music goes into a faster direction along with some blast beats, grim screams and dark sounding melodies and the band also uses a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as adding clean playing in certain sections of the recording.
Solos and leads when they are utilized are in a very melodic and extreme musical direction and they display a great amount of talent and skill and you can also hear a brief use of ritualistic chanting at times and the band also has a more modern approach to black metal which also shows that the band has moved with the times while also remaining true to a satanic direction and you can also hear avant garde and experimental elements in their music at time s but done in a more heavier direction.
When deep growls are added into the music they give the album more of an evil and demonic edge and each track sounds very different from each other while you can still tell that it is the same band and after awhile the band adds in a small amount of melodic chanting which enhances the occult atmosphere of the recording and some of the fast parts that are added into the music bring back a bit of the rawness they had in the 90's and they close the album with an 11 minute track.
Abigor creates a very different sound with this album staying away from the electronic elements and keyboards of previous recordings and focuses more on a guitar driven musical direction while still adding in new elements and remaining true to black metal without having to repeat themselves, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics are written in a liturgic form dedicated to the 3rd path to the mysteries of Satan.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Abigor and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ego" "Indulgence" and "Excessus". 8 out of 10.
