This is a review of a split album between San Francisco's Dunnock and Australia's Intergalactic Holocaust which will be released by Temptations Of Resonance and we will start off the review with Dunnock a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw, atmospheric and depressive form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts off with some atmospheric drones along with some spoken word parts a few seconds later and after the first track which is more in the ambient drone direction the music starts going into more of a raw, distorted and melodic black metal direction along with depressive screams.
Once the music starts to speed up blast beats and synths are added into the music as well as keeping around the spoken word parts of the first track and the music also starts alternating between slow and fast parts and they also bring in ambient sounds at times along with a small amount of doom metal influences and the second track is also very long and epic in length.
The third track starts out more in an ambient direction before going back to a raw black metal direction and this song is a little bit shorter than the previous track and they stick to mostly slower riffing to create more of a dark and grim atmosphere and on the last song of their side of the split they go for more of an atmospheric ambient musical direction as well as being mostly instrumental while you can still hear a small amount of black metal vocals.
Dunnock creates a very raw style of black metal on this recording while also being very atmospheric at the same time as well as adding a good amount of ambient in their musical sound to make every song sound very creative, the production has a very dark and raw sound while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Dunnock and if you are a fan of experimental, depressive, raw and atmospheric black metal you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Jan 28 (My Harp Is Turned To Mourning)" and "Kudryavka".
Next up is Intergalactic Holocaust a band that plays a very raw and atmospheric form of black metal.
A very dark, raw and melodic black metal sound starts off their side of the split bringing in a very emotional and depressive feeling before adding in some grim screams along with some programmed beats and after a few minutes atmospheric synths become a part of the bands musical style.
The bands mostly sticks to more of a slow and raw black metal musical direction while they also do bring in a good amount of mid paced sections at times and they also keep around a very dark and depressive atmosphere to all of the songs and while synths are used the guitars are the most powerful force in their style of black metal and you can also hear a decent amount of ambient elements coming out of the songs, once solos and leads are added into the music they enhance the melodic side of the music and the last track is all instrumental.
Intergalactic Holocaust creates a very dark, raw and atmospheric sound with their approach to black metal focusing more on a slower direction without losing the heaviness and they also have a very dark and ambient approach with their musical style at times, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover a very dark subject matter.
In my opinion intergalactic Holocaust are a very great sounding raw and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their music. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Black Stars".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of raw and atmospheric black metal. 8 out of 10.
