This is a review of a 7 inch between Portugal's Monte Penumbra and Netherlands Half Visible Presence which was released by Duplicate Records in the year of 2014 and we will start off the review with Monte Penumbra a band that plays an avant garde form of occult black metal with some doom metal influences and their song "One Is the Alignment Of Shrines".
Their song starts out with ambient sounds and distorted guitars which slowly leads up to more of an atmospheric black metal sound along with some grim screams and there song sticks mostly to a slow direction which also brings in some doom metal elements and melody while there are also some fast parts, blast beats and avant garde style vocals along with a very dark sounding production and lyrics that cover Occultism and Death themes.
Next up is Half Visible Presence a 1 man band that plays a mixture of black metal and funeral doom and his song "Downwards Deathmarch".
His song starts out with dark ambient sounding synths and bells before going into a heavy and melodic funeral doom metal direction and a minute later grim black metal screams are added into the song along with a small amount of guitar leads and the song is 6 minutes long with a dark sounding production and lyrics that cover death themes and after awhile clean singing vocals and spoken word parts start becoming a part of the song.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend to all fans of the occult, atmospheric and avant garde black metal styles as well as fans of funeral doom. 8 out of 10.
