Jarnvidr are a band from Sweden that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Landzplagor" which was released as a joint effort between Ostrogothia Productions and Fallen Temple.
Classical guitar playing starts off the album and after the intro the music goes for more of a fast and raw black metal sound that also incorporates a great amount of blast beats and high pitched screams and the musical style is very heavily rooted in the early 90's and also adds in a decent amount of Swedish style melodies at times.
All of the songs go back to the early days of the second wave when the music was still very dark and grim and the classical guitars from the intro also make a return on one of the later tracks as well, along with a track that is very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in a great mixture of mid paced and fast parts and a later track also brings in samples from military march music before making a return back to more of a dark and grim direction and towards the end of the album one of the tracks brings in a few seconds of guitar leads before closing the album with another classical guitar piece.
Jarnvidr plays a style of black metal that is very dark and raw and very heavily rooted in the early 90's and also sounds like it could off been released during the time frame, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover Swedish History and Folklore.
In my opinion Jarnvidr are a very great sounding old school, raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Der Hammer" "Gryningsrad" and "I Forbund Med Makterna". 8 out of 10.
