Vald are a band from the United States that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 demo "Eclipsed By Nightwinds" which was released by Vanguard Productions.
Militant sounds and acoustic guitars start off the demo and after the intro the music starts going into more of a slow yet raw black metal direction along with some depressive yet high pitched screams and the music speeds up at times with some fast tremolo picking and blast beats and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Just like with the previous demo the music is more in a 90's black metal direction and does have the raw feeling of some of the demo's that where released in that time period and I can hear a lot of French and Eastern European influences in the bands musical style and one of the tracks also brings in a brief use of clean singing while the main focus remains more on a primal style of black metal and one of the later tracks also brings in a few seconds of deep vocals that remain true to a grim style and the demo closes with an acoustic outro.
Vald creates another demo that is very heavily rooted in the early 90's raw black metal sound and also avoid any type of modern sound or trends, the production sounds very dark, raw and old school while the lyrics focus more on dark subjects.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vald and if you are a fan of raw and old school black metal, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "World Of Superstitious Slaves" and "Symbols Of Kingship". 8 out of 10.
