Exsequor are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a very melodic and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2012 ep "For The Fallen" which was re-issued on cassette in 2016 by UKEM Records.
A very heavy and melodic guitar lead starts off the ep along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful and a few seconds later grim black metal screams and epic keyboards are added into the music and the guitar riffs also bring in a great amount of melody and the music is mostly rooted in the modern era.
Most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid paced musical direction with the last song does show the band speeding up briefly with more of a raw style of the genre and a small amount of blast beats and also lets the keyboards dominate alongside with the guitars and vocals and they also mix in the more atmospheric side of pagan metal into there musical sound at times as well as a few seconds of clean singing.
Exsequor plays more of a keyboard orientated form of pagan/black metal on this recording while also being very epic and melodic at the same time, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover medieval history, war and death themes.
In my opinion Exsequor are a very great sounding epic and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ante Mortem" and "Outbliette". 8 out of 10.
