Ende are a band from France that has been featured before in this zine and plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Eman Etan" which was released by Obscure Abhorrance Productions.
Thunder and rain sounds start off the album along with some avant garde and ambient elements and after the intro the music goes into a more dark yet heavier direction along with some high pitched black metal screams and the riffs also use a great amount of dark sounding melodies along with all of the instruments sounding very powerful.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music a more raw black metal feeling along with some of the tracks being long and epic in length and there is also a brief use of melodic Gregorian chanting which also adds in more of an occult atmosphere.
Sounds of witched burning can be heard briefly and the music also brings in a great amount of 90's second wave influences and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when synths are utilized they give the recording a more ritualistic feeling and when guitar solos and leads are finally utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and as the album progresses a brief use of acoustic guitars can be heard and they close the album with a cover of Vlad Tepes's "Under A Carpathian Yoke".
Ende creates a style of occult black metal on this recording that is very raw in the second wave tradition while also being very diverse at the same time, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism, Sorcery and Medieval Witchcraft themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Ende and if you are a fan of occult black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cyclenchar" "Insidious Portrait" "Camerula" and "Under A Carpathian Yoke". 8/5 out of 10.
