Ghost Bath are a band from North Dakota that plays an atmospheric and depressive form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Starmourner" which will be released in April by Nuclear Blast Entertainment.
Dark soundscapes along with ambient style synths start off the album and after awhile the sounds of human torture are added onto the recording along with melodic guitar leads also making their presence known as well as the drums kicking in which also takes the music into a lot more heavier direction.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the vocals are mostly depressive black metal screams and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and they also mix the atmospheric and heavy parts together.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when acoustic guitars are utilized they give the songs more of a progressive edge and there are also a couple of instrumentals along with a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length and elements of post rock and shoegaze can also be heard in certain sections of the recording.
Ghost Bath plays a style of post black metal that is very depressive and atmospheric sounding while also having its raw moments, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover joy, paradise, cosmos and ecstasy themes.
In my opinion Ghost Bath are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Seraphic" "Celestial" and "Cherubim". 8/5 out of 10.
