WOM are a solo project from Cyprus that has been featured before in this zine and plays more of a psychedelic and progressive style of black metal on this recording and this is a review of his self released 2017 album "Psychedelic Noir".
A very heavy yet melodic guitar sound starts off the album along with some drum beats and after awhile grim black metal screams make their presence known on the recording and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length while atmospheric sounding synths can be heard in certain sections of the recording.
Acoustic guitars can be heard in some of the tracks along with some thunder and rain sounds and the riffs also mix in a great amount of progressive structures and all of t he musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and some tracks also bring in psychedelic elements while spoken word parts can also be heard briefly and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can be heard and the album closes with a keyboard instrumental.
WOM moves away from the raw style of black metal from previous releases while going into a more psychedelic and progressive form of t he genre while also keeping the grim atmosphere, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover nature and melancholy themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from WOM and if you are a fan of progressive and psychedelic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Ides Of Death" "Moonlight Melancholia" and "The Tempest Of Loss". 8 out of 10.
