Chaos Moon are a solo project from Pennsylvania that plays a very raw, depressive and ambient form of black metal and this is a review of his 2017 double compilation album "Origin Of Apparation And Languor Into Echoes, Beyond" which will be released in October by Folkvangr Records on cassette and consists of 2 albums that where originally released in 2007.
Blast beats and fast yet raw tremolo picking starts off the compilation along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful while the synths gives the songs more of an ambient feeling and the vocals are very high pitched yet depressive black metal screams and the music also mixes in some 2nd wave influences.
At times the riffs bring in a decent amount of melody while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and as the compilation progresses acoustic guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording.
At times the music gets very atmospheric along with spoken word parts also being used briefly add some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and one of the outro's also adds in a small amount of Gregorian chants that also return on a later track while the second album on the collection expands on the style of the first release while also adding in more melodic riffing which also added in the guitar leads when that are used briefly.
Chaos Moon plays a style of black metal that is very raw and depressive sounding while also having its atmospheric and ambient moments, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover mental illness, plague, and obscure themes.
In my opinion Chaos Moon are a very great sounding raw, depressive and ambient black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Aether Aurora" "Origin Of Apparation" "Abstract Tongues" and "Countless Reverie In Mare". 8 out of 10.
