Ukraine's Bergrizen has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of black metal, dark folk and ambient and this is a review of their 2023 album "Orathania" which will be released in September by Purity Trough Fire.
Dark soundscapes and ambient style synths which also use a variety of many different sounding keys start off the album. One of the tracks also introduces nature sounds onto the recording along with a great portion of the songs also being instrumentals and elements of folk music can also be heard at times.
All of the tracks also sound very different from each other while some songs also add in Ukrainian style folk instruments. Percussion can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with one track also adding in heavier guitars and grim black metal screams as well as the riffs also adding in some melodies.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style along with the heavier sections of the songs also having their atmospheric moments, clean playing can also b e heard briefly. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics are written in Ukrainian and cover the folklore of their home country.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Bergrizen and if you are a fan of black metal, dark folk and ambient, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "To The Coasts Of Bessarabia" "Carpathian Shield Of Galicia" "Siveria magic" and "Sloboda Ukraine In Winter". 8 out of 10.
