Germany's Tsattoggua have returned with their first full length since 1998 which shows the music going for a very chaotic and old school style of black metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "We Are God" which will be released on may 31st by Osmose Productions.
A very heavy and brutal sound starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very rooted in the mid 90's era and keyboards are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the songs.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. A couple of tracks also adds in a small amount of ritualistic chants along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic yet chaotic style when they are utilized, clean playing can also be heard on a couple of songs and they also make an old school style sound more modern.
On this recording Tsattoggua takes their fast and aggressive style from the mid 90's era and mixes it with a more modern day brutality to create a very heavy and fast sounding album. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Anti Christianity, Blasphemy, Perversion and Bondage themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Tsattoggua and if you are a fan of fast, aggressive and brutal old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Master Morality" "I Drive my Dogs (To Thule)" "No paradise For Human Sheep" and "We Are God". 8 out of 10.
