Vástígr are a solo project from Austria that plays a very atmospheric and dissonant form of black metal and this is a review of his 2024 album "The Path Of Perdition" which was released by Avantgarde Music.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Atmospheric sounding synths can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw black metal feeling.
Vocals are done in more of a deep growling style while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
At times the music also gets very dissonant sounding along with all of the tracks also adding in a decent amount of clean playing. Screams are also added into some parts of the album and the music also mixes in a lot of modern Icelandic influences. The productions sounds very professional while the lyrics cover downfall and uprising, of accepting men's futility and insignificance in a greater (cosmic scheme).
In my opinion Vástígr are a very great sounding atmospheric and dissonant black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Plunge" and "Eternity". 8 out of 10.
