Trance Of The Undead/Chalice of Disease/Iron Bonehead Productions/2021 CD Review

 

  Trance  Of  The  Undead  are  a  solo  project  from  Brazil  that  plays  an  old  school  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  album  "Chalice  Of  Disease"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  Ritualistic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  drum  beats  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  war  metal  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Bestial  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  music  is  also  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

 The  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  elements  as  well  as  the  keyboards  also  making  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  melodic  chants  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard,  Gregorian  chants  and  melodic  guitar  leads  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  darkness,  necromancy  and  horror  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Trance  Of  The  Undead  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Grave  Sacrament"  and  "Chalice  of  Disease".  8  out  of  10.

Vaciø/Et Destituta Mortis/Morbid Shrine Records/2021 EP Review

 

  Vaciø  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  plays  a  very  melodic,  old  school  and  Swedish  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "Wt  Destituta  Mortis"  which  was  released  by  Morbid  Shrine  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  Swedish  style  while  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  Vaciø  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is v ery  fast,  raw,  aggressive  and  melodic  sounding  in  the  90's  Swedish  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Misanthropy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vaciø  are  a  very  great  sounding  melodic  and  old  school  Swedish  influenced  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Into  the  jaws  of  Sobek".  8  out  of  10.

Runespell/Verses In Regicide/Iron Bonehead Productions/2021 CD Review

 

  Australia's  solo  project  Runespell  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  continuing  the  raw,  melodic  and  epic  style  of  pagan  black  metal  from  his  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  album  "Verses  In  Regicide"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.  

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Whispers  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  European  influences.

  Epic  and  tribal  style  percussion  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  one  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  songs  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  pagan  black  metal  elements  as  well  as  the  both  of  the  instrumentals  also  being  done  in  an  acoustic  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism,  Destiny,  Medieval  and  Virtue  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Runespell  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  melodic  and  epic  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Structures  Of  Collapse"  "Realm  Of  Fire"  and  "Shadow's  Dominion".  8  out  of  10.

Chamber Of Unlight/Realm Of The Night/Werewolf Records/2021 CD Review

 

  Chamber  Of  Unlight  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  Finnish  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Realm  Of  The  Night"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Werewolf  Records.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  an  epic  atmosphere  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  At  times  the  vocals  also  get  very  deep  sounding  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  melodic  vocals  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Chamber  Of  Unlight  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  Finnish  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Crowns  Of  Divinity"  "Summoning  The  Spirit  Of  The  Dead"  and  "Uncelestial  Light  (The  Chamber)".  8  out  of  10.

Skorbvstr/akkurat min kopp te/Snow Wolf Records/2021 Demo Review

 

  Kentucky's  solo  project  Skorbvstr  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  and  lo-fi  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  demo  "Akkurat  min  kopp  te"  which  was  released  by  Snow  Wolf  Records.

  Distorted  soundscapes  start  off  the  demo  before  adding  in  heavier  riffing  while  the  music  also  captures  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere.  A  couple  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  tortured  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  tracks  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of  the  drum  beats  also  being  programmed  as  well  as  one  of  the  tracks  also  being  a  noise  orientated  instrumental  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  on  later  songs.

  On  this  recording  Skorbvstr  remains  true  to  the  raw  and  lo-fi  style  of  black  metal  that  he  has  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  song  titles  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Skorbvstr  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  lo-fi  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "null"  and  "ekte  black  metal  er  for  mainstream".  8  out  of  10.

  Ashes  For  The  Mute  are  a  band  from  Denver,  Colorado  that  plays  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their 2021  album  "Celestial  Revelations"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Reaping  Scythe  Records  and  Habilis  Tapes.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  which  also  have  their  deeper  moments.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  elements  of  doom  metal  also  being  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  synths,  one  of  the  songs  is  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  cosmic  and  celestial  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ashes  For  The  Mute  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Celestial  Revelations"  "Spatial  Influx"  "Temporal  Shift"  and  "Labyrinthian  Dream  Vortex".  8  out  of 1 0.

  Genocidio  are  a  band  from  Brazil  and  on  this  recording  played  an  early  mixture  of  war, black, death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1987  ep  "The  Grave"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  September,  2021  by  Nuclear  War  Now!  Productions  with  some  bonus  live  and  demo  tracks.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  war  metal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Bestial  death  metal  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  some  elements  of  thrash  metal  and  the  first  wave  era  and  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing. 

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  blackened  screams  as  well  as  the  live  material  and  demo  tracks  also  bringing  in  a  more  primitive  touch  than  the  ep.

  Genocidio  played  a  musical  style  that took  the  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  genres  of  the  80's  and  mixed  them  in  with  a  primitive  aggression  that  would  later  evolve  into  war  metal,  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  war,  darkness  and  occultism  themes.
