Idolos/132019/Adipocere Records/2025 Full Length Review

France's  Idolos  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "!32019"  which  was  released  by  Adipocere  Records.

Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

When  guitars  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Clean  playing  is  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  clear  vocals  onto  the  album.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Atlantis,  Venus  and  Ancient  Alien  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Idolos  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Thick  Fiery  Hair"  and  "Permenant  Seperation'.  8  out  of  10.

Idolos Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

MgRcH : We’re not exactly a “band”. We are messengers from the sky who come to deliver kind of a musical warning to earthlings. We want them to reconnect with their galactic side, and the secret knowledge of their own past. The first signals were sent in 2017 but we managed to create a complete transmission between 2019 and 2020. Regarding the musical aspect of our message, i (MgRcH) emits 82Hz-1.174Hz/41Hz-97Hz strings frequencies (hu-man guitars and bass), and backing vocal emissions. I also do the harmonic and lyrical transcriptions. My partner NnK is the lead vocal teleprinter, he makes cosmic interpretations of the lyrical transcription. He is also in charge of the visual and graphic aspects.

2.So far you have released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

MgRcH : The style we went for is what hu-mans call “Black Metal” or “Atmospheric Black Metal”. In our opinion, it must be considered as Alien Awareness Driven Music. We try to release an occult space opera in the depths of the Mayan underworld. “Black metal” is the language we chose to express our message because of its intensity. Tremolo-picking guitars, high-pitched and growling vocals, relentless blasting or throbbing drums are the perfect elements for the epic and tragic equation of IDOLOS.

3.The lyrics on the ep cover Mayan Mythology and you also made some references to Egypt and Atlantis in the bio, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in those topics?

MgRcH : We have planned to release 3 Ep towards the Mayan Mythology inspired by the Popol Vuh. As messengers from the skies, our goal is to reconnect hu-manity with the founding cosmogonic texts.

The presence of the IDOLOS (superior beings coming from Venus) was manifest in the Mayan world but you can also find their “footsteps” in Ancient Egypt and of course in Atlantis. Isis and Osiris were IDOLOS. There’s no doubt about this.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Idolos'?

MgRcH : The “Idolos” is one of the several names hu-man gave to the sky visitors throughout history. Some called them “fairies”, or “mythological heroes”, some others in the peruvian world called them “Idolos”.

We are blue blooded beings, we’re the elite of distant times and heroes of days to come. Our ancestors also have blue skin but their skin turned to green when being exposed to the sun rays. That’s why Osiris and Thot had green face.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

MgRcH : The artwork was made by NnK. He has a powerful mystic vision and the gift of second sight. In the background, you can see the faces of Ixbalanque and Hunahpu (the hero twins of the Mayan underworld) and a circular shape representing both a sun and a ball (because the twins bothered the lords of the underworld by playing with a ball). On the foreground, there’s a flute and a blowpipe made of bone which are ones of the attributes of the twins. NnK also used a photograph made by a close fellow (LKTM) to colorize and texturize the picture.

6.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding your line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

MgRcH : There are only 2 members in IDOLOS : NnK and MgRcH. There are absolutely no plan for expanding the line up. We are IDOLOS and we create a message. But we have some serious correspondents on earth with alien awareness who help us to put this message into form. Lord Necron from Gergovia is one of those. He offered us brilliant rhythmic pulsations.

7.The location of the band is unknown, can you tell us a little bit more about it?

MgRcH : Actually, our spaceship landed in the french countryside, in a place called “Limousin”. It’s a really peaceful place, we can observe earthlings and create our message in a very calm environment. Moreover, this place is full of radioactive energy due to the massive presence of radon in the land. And this is ideal for our creativity.

8.The ep was released through both 'Anthrazit' and 'Wolfspell Records', do you feel bot of these labels have been very helpful when it comes to getting your music out there heard/

MgRcH : We have an agreement with Anthrazit for releasing the Ep and spreading our message on the Internet (Bandcamp, Deezer, Amazon, Black Metal Promotion…). Andreas from Anthrazit is a real professional and he was one of the first person to get in contact with us. He’s really active on the social media. And furthermore, he has a strong Alien Awareness.

We have a second deal with Wolfmond for the release of a special edition of the Ep. This will be a digipak version with a different artwork (designed by NnK) and a bonus track. This will be out on April 2020.

We are currently looking for a deal to release the Ep on vinyl. IDOLOS also need some celluloid to spread its message. So Label managers, if you read this, feel free to contact us cosmosidolos@gmail.com

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

MgRcH : The reaction seems quite good regarding the views, likes and comments on Black Metal Promotion and Bandcamp. I think the world is finally ready to hear our message. But we don’t only want to address our message to “black metal fans” we want to talk to humanity in its entirety.  That’s why we want everyone to relay our music. Keep supporting the Idolos by following our facebook page : http://www.facebook.com/cosmosidolos/

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

MgRcH : We don’t plan to release a full length for the moment. We have planned to record 2 other Eps, each one containing 3 long songs. The purpose is to create a Mayan trilogy starting with “Ahi Cab” which means “At the beginning of the world”. We will record the second Ep in spring. Everything is already composed. The whole trilogy must be seen as a cosmic trinity. Maybe we will release a full length by compiling the three Ep.

When this trilogy will be finished we will start another journey to another cosmogonic theme.

But for the moment, this is just the beginning...

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

MgRcH : On our planet we caught some subsonic waves from Earth that we really enjoyed. Scandinavian black metal (Burzum, Darkthrone, Enslaved, Mayhem…), Mediterranean Black Metal (Rotting Christ, Mortuary Drape, Necromantia...), as well as Czech Maestros Master’s Hammer took a significant part in the making of our style. We’re also into Occult-Space-Kraut-Rock Music (Paul Chain, Goblin, Popol Vuh, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze…). Personally, I also really enjoy the trippy guitar soundscapes created by Robin Guthrie and Vinnie Reilly. In 2019, I enjoyed Darkthrone’s “Old Star”, Blut Aus Nord’s “Hallucinogens”, Mayhem’s “Daemon”, Mork’s “Det Svarte Juv”, and Misþyrming’s “Algleymi”.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

MgRcH : Thanks a lot for your support John. Long live Occult Black Metal Zine. Tula is the twin sister of Thulee.

Relearn and preserve.

Idolos/Ahi Cab/Anthrazit Records/2020 EP Review

Idolos  are  a  band  from  an  unknown  location  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  ep  "Ahi  Cab"  which  was  released  by  Anthrazit  Records.

Clean  playing  along  with  some  sci-fi  style  spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  ep along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  which  also  get  deep  at  times  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  atmospheric  style  and  clean  playing  also  makes  a  return  on  later  tracks.

Idolos  plays  a  style  of  black  emtal  that  is  very  aggressive  yet  atmospheric  sounding  at  the  same  time.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Atlantean,  Egyptian,  Aztec  and  Mayan  themes.

In  my  opinion  Idolos  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Summoners".  8  out  of  10.
