Hrizg/Damnatio Memoriae/Moribind Records/2024 Full Length Review

Hrizg  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Damnatio  Memoriae"  which  was  released  by  Moribund Records

A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  with  a  more  modern  take.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Clean  playing  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times,  synths  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album  and  some  songs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads.

On  this  recording  Hrizg  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  aggressive  and  traditional  sounding  as  well  as  adding  in  a  touch  of  death  metal  to  create  a  very  heavy  album.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  philosophical,  misanthropic,  occult  and  anti  religion  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Hrizg  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  aggressive  and  traditional  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pilgrim  God"  "Upon  Your  Ashes"  and  "The  Lonely  Raven".  8  out  of  10.

Hrizg/Oaken Path Of Grief/Wraith Productions/2006 CD Review

Hrizg  are  a  1  man  band  from  Spain  that  plays  a  very  grim  and  forest  orientated  form  of  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2006  album  "Oaken  Path  Of  Grief"  which  was  released  by  Wraith  Productions.

Drums  range  from slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  with  some  primitive  black  metal  riffing,  as  for  the  synths  when  they  are  utilized  they  bring  a  very  dark  ambient  and  epic  sound  to  the  music  adding  in  influences  from  other  Tolkien  orientated  bands  adding  in  some  folk   instruments  on  the  last  song.

Rhythm  guitars range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  with  some  atmospheric  elements  and  dark  sounding  melodies  being  thrown  into  the  riffing,  while  the  lead  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  briefly  are  very  depressive  and  melodic  sounding  black  metal  guitar  leads  that  do  not  really  touch  on  the  area  of  solos,  as  for  the  classical  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords  to  add  a  dimension  of  being  surrounded  by  a  dark  forest.

Vocals  are  mostly  ritualistic,  grim  sounding  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  with  a  brief  use  of  rough  clean  signing  being  used  for  a  few  seconds  on  one  song,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Misanthropy,  Metaphysical,  Darkness,  Nature  and  Tolkien  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  while  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  in  addition  there  are  a  couple  of  songs  that  are  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Hrizg  are  a  very  great  sounding  grim,  raw  and  primitive  Tolkien  inspired  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sward  Of  Thendios"  Sorrow"  "Desecration  Of  The  Dio  Dynasty"  and  "Army  Of  Ancient  Blasphemies".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
