Agael/Trost/Naturmacht Productions/2014 CD Review

Agael  are  a  1  man  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  I  would  describe  as  being  a  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2014  album  "Trost"  which  will  be  released  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

The  album  starts  out  with  dark  ambient  sounds  and  synths  which  leads  up to  melodic  female  vocals  and  a  few  seconds  later  the  music  goes  into  a  more  melodic  black  metal  direction  along  with  grim  screams  which  also  use  have  a  very  depressive  tone  to  them  at  times  as  well  as  bring  in  a  dark  and  melancholic  atmosphere  as  well  as  using  a  mixture  of  clean  and  heavy  parts  which  also  leads  up  to  melodic  guitar  solos.

As  the  album  continues  the  music  remains  in  a  dark  and  melancholic  direction  combining  soft  atmospheres  with  raw  black  metal  and  clean  singing  gothic  male  vocals  are  also  added  into  the  music  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  on  other  songs  you  can  also  hear  traces  of  melodic  doom  metal  and  the  recording  also  takes  a  slow  pace  from  beginning  to  end  and  on  one  song  there  is  a  brief  use  of  deep  growls  along  with  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars.

On  this  album  Agael  take  some  melancholic  sounding  ambient  elements  and  mix  it  win  with  atmospheric  black  metal  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  gothic  and  doom  metal  to  create  an  album  that  is  very  dark  and  melodic  as  well  as  having  a  great  amount  of  variety  and  diversity.

Song  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark  and  poetic  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  raw,  dark  and  heavy  sound  along  with  some  of  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Agael  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic,  atmospheric  melancholic  black  metal  with  elements  of  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sternenklang"  "Ewige  Heimkehr"  and  "Trost".  8/5  out  of  10.

Agael/Lebensnacht/Apathologie/Naturmacht Productions/2012 CD Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  from  2  bands  from  Germany  Agael  and  Lebensnacht  called  "Apathologie"  which  was  released  by  Naturmacht  Productions  and  we  will  start  of  the  review  the  review  with Agael  a  band  that  mixes  black  metal  with  dark  ambient.

Synths  bring  a  very  atmospheric  and  dark  ambient  sound  to  the  music,  while  the  drumming  ranges  from  slow  to  mid  paced  drumming  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  fast  playing  or  blast  beats,  as  for the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  ambient  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  along  with  some  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  soft  and  clean  playing  that  brings  more  ambient  elements  into  the  music,  while t he  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  post  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  to  enhance  the  darkness  that  is  coming  out  of  the  music.

Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  with  some  spoken  word  samples,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark  themes  and  depressive  themes,  as  for  the  production it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  Agael  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  black  metal  and  dark  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style  of  music,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vom Nightsein"  and  "Die  Letzte  Geburt".  RECOMMENDED.

Next  up  is  Lebensnacht  another  band  that  mixes  dark  ambient  with  black  metal.

Synths  bring  a  very  atmospheric and  depressive  dark  ambient  sound  to  the  music,  while  the  drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  drumming  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  fast  playing  or  blast  beats,  as  for  the  bass  playing it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  depressive,  ambient  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  along  with  a  brief  use  of  soft  and  clean  playing  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords  to  enhance  the  darkness  that  is  coming  out  of  the  music.

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  and  grim  sounding  depressive  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  some  spoken  word  parts,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  Lebensnacht  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  dark  ambient  and  depressive  black metal  with  the  best  music  on  this  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style  of  music,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Im  Kafig"  and  "Dem  Ende  Nah".  RECOMMENDED.

In  conclusion  I  think  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  album  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  ambient  black  metal.  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
