Eufori/Humorsvangningar/Black Lion Productions/2016 Full Length Review

Eufori  are  a  duo  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  depressive,  suicidal  black  metal  with  elements  of  post  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016 album  "Humorsvangningar"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  black  Lion  Productions.

A very  distorted  yet  melodic  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  the  vocals are  mostly depressive black  metal  screams  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  post  punk  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful.

Most  of  the  songs  stick  either to  a  very  slow  or  mid  paced  musical  direction  and  you  can  also  hear  punk  elements  being  mixed  in  with  grim  screams  and  some  of  the  riffs  have  a  happy  edge  to  them  which  also  makes  the  depressive  side  of  the  songs  have  a  different  affect  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  when  regular  singing  is  utilized  briefly  it  adds  an  influence  of  goth  rock  onto  the  recording  and  one  song  also  brings  in  tragic  sounding  keyboards  while  a  later  track  also  uses  a  small  amount of  blast  beats  and  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling.

Eufori  plays a   style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  depressive  and  melodic  while  also  mixing  in  elements  of  goth  and  post  punk  which  makes  their  songs  sound  a  little  bit  more  different,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  suicidal  and  depressive  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Eufori  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  black  metal  with  a  touch  of  post  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Avgrund"  "Inget  mer"  and  "Eufori".  8  out  of  10.

Eufori Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

- We are a DSBM-band formed in 2016 by me & "Livsnekaren". Our music represent the darkest emotions we posses and experience.

2.Recently you have released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

- The sound is quite raw & cold I would say.

3.According to the fb page you label your music as 'happy metal', can you tell us a little bit more about this term?

Sarcasm. "Happy music for happy people". Allthough some of our riffs is quite happy, the lyrical themes is the opposite, to give the listener a sense of "irony" that's all I can say.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore on the ep?

- Depression, feelings of guilt, selfhatred & anxiety

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Eufori'?

- Sarcasm, and there is no actual inspiration.

6.What are some of the things you bring into this musical project that you are not able to do with your other band?

- This band focuses on more traditional DSBM, the more raw sound, and a different overall style than my other band.

7.On the ep you had done a 'Vanhelga' cover, what was the decision behind doing one of their songs?

- Vanhelga is a band we take inspiration from, and a band we really appreciate. Hence the cover.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of depressive black metal?

- So far so good, so let's hope it continues to stay this way.

9.Where would you like to see this project heading into musically during the future?

- We'll see how the future turns out when we get there.

10.What are some of the musical influences you bring into this musical project?

- Lifelover, Vanhelga, Thy light, Nocturnal depression, Kall, Hypothermia, Hank III, Djävul among others.

11.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have nay final words or thoughts?

- nope, that's all for now.

Eufori/Vardelos/Black Lion Productions/2016 EP Review

Eufori  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  very  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Vardelos"  which  was  re;eased  by  Black  Lion  Productions.

Clean  guitars  start  off  the  ep  and  mix  in  with  a  heavier  sound  a  few  seconds  later  along  with  some  angry  and  spoken  screams  making  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  awhile  the  vocals  start  utilizing  more  of  a  depressive  edge.

At  times  the  guitar  riffs  can  be  very  melodic  and  the  music  brings  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow  and  mid  paced  parts  while  also  sticking  mostly  to  a  more  modern  and  dark  side  of  the  depressive  black  metal  genre  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  classical  guitars  and  they  also  close  the  ep  with  a  cover  of  Vanhelga's  "Lat  Son  Falla"  which  also  has  tremolo  picking,  melodic  guitar  leads  and  keyboards  being  introduced  to  the  recording  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  blast  beats.

Eufori  plays  a  style  of  depressive  black  metal  that  is  very  dark  and  melodic  while  also  focusing  more  on the  slower  and  mid  paced  style  of   the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

In  my  opinion  Eufori  are  a  very  great  sounding  depressive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Inget  mer".  8  out  of  10.
