Fumes Interview

1.- For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Isaías: Fumes is Utter darkness metal of Death! Our chants represent the step that the soul takes when crossing to the other side of life.

2.- In February you have your first full length coming out, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Isaías: The production (mainly) and the recording process were meticulously detailed to achieve the sound we were looking forward to, heading to a more proper and sharpened sound, more detailed-oriented.

3.-.All of the band members also have a background playing in death metal bands, how would you compare the black metal style nowadays to other genres of metal that you have worked with in the past?

Isaías: It's the same, no matter if it's Death or black, we put our devotion, blood, heart and spirits into each band! It's all about imprecating deadly emotions!

However, sonically, the main difference is that Fumes is a direct entity, no technical, no fancy composition, just straight metal of Death darkness shooting at your face.

4.-Some of your lyrics cover death worship and pre-Hispanic themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?

Isaías: Death is the landscape of the living,

an obscure pathway to liberation; once you embrace that, something cracks it up, a primitive aim comes along!

For the Nahua cosmovision the underworld is the tree that connects existence with Death, where the highest branches flourish while the deepest roots grow. Between light and Darkness, an infinite circle is nourished, a metamorphosis that becomes the eternal heartbeat of life.

My roots, for some reason, feel mysteriously comfortable giving their insides to the indifference of the modern world.

The smell from the Ahuehuetes, the sound and flow of water over the rocks. All this mixture takes hold to turn me into a fundamental part of its existence.

The path to reunion with the former Gods is a duality between light and darkness, that is why the colors shine brightly between here and there.

an eternal dance to see what others see can not.

5.- What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

Isaías: DEATH and DARKNESS forevermore.

6.- What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Fumes'?

Isaías: The Fumes are a process, a result from a combustion.

When you melt and deform, our aim brings that result.

The music is the source, skills are our medium, darkness is our method, and the result is Fumes!

7.- Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

Isaías: The cover art stands for the Almighty Tzinacantli, the messenger from the underworld,  in the Nahua cosmovision Bats were created to send messages through the darkness.

8.- What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Isaías: Every show is special to be honest, executing metal live is the mainly aim with Fumes! nevertheless the opening act to Sadistic Intent last year was a complete blast!

9.- Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?

Isaías: Indeed! 2025 going to be a busy year, we're going to play from north México to south México and Colombia is on the barrel, It's going to be our first international mini-tour.

10.- On  a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Isaías: Honestly, I don't know (and honestly I don't care) but I have close friends that are pretty charmed out with the release, We evoke some barbaric feeling, so our mission is completed.

11.- Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Isaías: the same! Savage, bloody, frenetic and vicious assault of Darkness, our mission is to spread the Death metal others can not!

12.- What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Isaías: Piquerism, Khasmata, Infesticide, In obscurity revealed, Inferna, Hacavitz and Exhumation.

13.- Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Isaías: Metal of Death emerges triumphant!!!!!

Total respect, and thanks for sharing interest about Fumes!!!

Fumes/Skeletal Wings Threshold/Personal Records/2025 Full Length Review

Fumes  are  a  band  from  Mexico  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Skeletal  Wings  Threshold"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Personal  Records.

A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  deep  growls  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  more  of  a  90's  style  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  they  also  add  in  3  interludes  in  between  a  few  tracks  that  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Fumes  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that is  very  fast  and  aggressive  as  well  as  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  era.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  violence,  chaos,  death  worship  and  pre-Hispanic  themes.

In  my  opinion  Fumes  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Steller  Ascension  Infernal"  "Hallow  Teeth  of  Darkness"  and  "Plaguestorms".  8  out  of  10.
