Pillagery Interview

For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

We are PILLAGERY and we are bludgeoning primitive Black Metal from Victoria , BC

So far you have been a part of a spit and released a couple of demo's, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on these recordings?

We pay homage to the old sounds of black metal past in whatever way feels natural to us.  The idea was definitely to be primitive violent and bestial, with cold riffs that bleed in as well.

Both of the band members are in other bands, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Pillagery', that you have not been able to do with your other groups?

This band being a 2 piece just makes it very stripped down and lets us be very chaotic and aggressive.

What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

Generally Satan, war, medieval torture, castration.

What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Pillagery'?

It’s a word we made up.. Like when a barbarian horde sacked a village, there was a shitload of rape and pillagery.

Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

This is the way Pillagery is.

Recently you were a part of a split with 'Goatscrote', what are your thoughts on the other musical project that had participated on the recording?

We had both gotten copies of Goatscrote tapes before we met and always worshipped that band. Total underrated bestial Canadian horde!  We ordered some cds from them and began corresponding. Asked them to do a split and they were interested. Totally an influence on this band so that is very cool to work with those guys.

On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of war and bestial black/death metal?

The reception has been great, people seem to want what we are offering. Fuck this tame polished trend, there will always be an audience for braindead hammering chaos! Huge thanks to WolfKult Religion for taking notice of us and releasing this split.

When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We are currently in the caverns smashing together the LP. You should be able to expect it sometime in 2026. It will be the logical next step down the path of barbarity.

What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Obviously this band is influenced massively by bands like MORBOSIDAD, BLACK WITCHERY, BLASPHEMY, ARCHGOAT etc etc. We worship all sorts of metal that is not false and shitty.

Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?

PIllagery exalts Satan and defiles all things holy.

Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Hails to all who have supported us! Hail the true underground. Fuck off all fake black metal.

Pillagery/GoatScrote/Hails...To The Coming Age of Barbarism/WolfKult Religion/2025 Split Album Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Canada's  Pillagery  and  GoatScrote  called  "Hails...To  the  Coming  Age  of  Barbarism"  which  was  released  by  WolfKult  Religion  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Pillagery  a  duo  that  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  distorted  sound  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them ,  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  and  the  lyrics  cover  death,  darkness,  war  and  violence  themes.

In  my  opinion  Pillagery  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  duo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Forging  Entropy"  and  "Coveting  Slaughter".

Next  up  is  GoatScrote  a  duo  that  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  horror  movie  orientated  intro  which  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  synths  and  demonic  voices  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  bestial  growls.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking,  blast  beats  and  war  metal  elements  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  their  side  of  th4e  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  violence  and  goat  worship  themes,

In  my  opinion  GoatScrote  are  a  very  great  sounding  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  duo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Crown  Of  thorns"  and  "St.  Jim".

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  war  an  bestial  black/death  metal.  8  out  of  10.
