Frozen Shadows where a band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that played a very atmospheric, cold, grim, raw and primitive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2002 album "Hantises" which also contains their 1996 demo "Empires Of Grace" which was released by Holy Records as a double album and we will start of the review with "Hantises".
Drums range range from slow mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown into the music, while the keyboards when they are utilized bring a very dark, atmospheric and cold sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal rifss that are very dark, raw and primitive sounding with some of the 90s style black metal brutality and dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.
Vocals are all grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of French and English and cover Satanism, Mysticism, and Northern Landscapes, as for the production it has a very cold, dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound to it with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion this was a great album from Frozen Shadows and if you are a fan of atmospheric, cold, raw and primitive black metal, you should check this recording out. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "As Old As Time Itself" "Through Fields Of Mercilessness" and "Strangled By Fear". RECOMMENDED.
Next up is the 1996 demo "Empires Of Grace".

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with some spoken word parts as well as a brief use of clean singing, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of French and English and cover Satanic, Darkness and Winter themes, as for the production it has a more dark, raw and primitive sound than the full length with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion this was a great demo from Frozen Shadows and i would recommend to all fans of 90's Nordic style black metal. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Adrift in The Sepulchral Snow" and "Forest Of Perdition". RECOMMENDED.
In conclusion I feel this was a great double cd from Frozen Shadows and I would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric, cold, raw and primitive sounding black metal. RECOMMENDED BUY.
