Ancient Moon/Benedictus diabolica, Gloria Patri/Iron Bonehead Productions/2019 CD Review

  International  band  Ancient  Moon  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  ambient  style of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Benedictus  diabolica,  Gloria  Patri"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  A  very  dark  and  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  both  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  synths  are  added  into  the  music  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  ambient  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Clean  vocals  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  music  and  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which gives  the  tracks  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are utilized  and   the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  mixture  of  both  modern  and  old  school  influences,  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  whispered  vocals  can  also  be  heard. The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ancient  Moon  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album. RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Benedictus  diabolica,  Gloria  Patri  Pt.  2".  8  out  of  10.

Ancient Moon/Prosternatur/Secretum Secretorum/Iron Bonehead Productions/2018 Split CD Review

  This  is  a  review of  a  split  from  2  international  bands  from  Europe  Ancient  Moon  and  Prosternatur  with  the  album  being  called  "Secretum  Secretorum"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Ancient  Moon  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  and  on  this  recording  plays  an  atmospheric  and  ambient  form  of  occult  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  melodic  guitar  yet  dissonant  guitar  leads  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  their  track  being  over  18  minutes  in  length.

  Vocals  are  grim  black  metal  screams  which  also  uses  some  melodic  singing  at  times  while  the  spoken  word  parts  gives  the  song  more  of  a  ritualistic  atmosphere  along  with  the  song  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  the  production  sounds very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Western  Occultism themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Ancient  Moon  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  ambient  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Prosternatur  a  band  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  dark  ambient  style  synths  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

  Synths  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  melodic  leads  is  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  along  with  the  tracks  also  bringing  in a   great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  bringing  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Sumerian  Occultism  and  Ritualistic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Prosternatur  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Zi  Dinger  Isatum  Kanpa!".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  occult  black  metal.  8/5  out  of  10.

Ancient Moon/Vvltvre/Satanath Records/Cold Raw Records/Metal Throne Productions/2015 CD Review

  Ancient  Moon  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Belgium,  France  and  Switzerland  that  plays  an  ambient  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015 album  "Vvlture"  which  was  released as  a  joint  effort  between Satanath Records,  Cold Raw Records  and  Metal  Throne Productions.

  A  very  dark,  raw  and  depressive  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  riffing  and  after  a  minute  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  faster  musical  direction  that  also  introduces  blast  beats  and  grim  screams  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  mournful  clean  singing  being  utilized  at  times.

  There  is  only  one  track  on  the  recording  and  it  is  close  to  30  minutes  in  length  and  the  song  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  vocals  also  get  very  high  pitched  and  suicidal  at  times  and  after  awhile  more  atmospheric  and  ambient  sounds  find  their  way  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  synths  also  being  utilized  at  times  while  some  parts  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  guitars.

  Ancient  Moon  brings  a  style  of  black  metal  onto  this  recording  that  is  very  raw,  grim,  depressive  and  atmospheric  and  mixes  it  with  ambient  music  to  create  a  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ancient  Moon  are  a  very  great  sounding  ambient  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  8  out  of  10.
