Varituuk/Jrone/2014 EP Review

  Varituuk  returns  with  another  recording  this  time  going  for  more  of  a  blackened  doom/drone  sound  and  this is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2014  ep  "Jrone".

  A  very  dark  and  atmospheric  drone  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  soundscapes  and  after  3  minutes  the  music  starts  to  add  in  guitars  and  drums  which  also  takes  the  music  into  more  of  a  doom  metal  direction  and  after  awhile  the  music  gets  more  up  beat  and  you  can  hear  elements  of  black  metal  being  mixed  in  with  doom  metal  and  the  song  is  30  minutes  in  length  and  all  instrumental  and  during  the  last  few  minutes  of  the  track  the  music  returns  back  to  a  drone  direction.

  Varituuk  creates  a  song  that  sticks  mostly  to  a  slow  style  of  doom  metal  on  this  recording  while  also  mixing  in  black  metal  elements  and  drones  to  create  a  very  dark  and  epic  sounding  instrumental  track  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Varituuk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  doom,  black  metal  and  drone,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  8  out  of  10.

Varituuk/I, Varituuk/2014 EP Review

  Canada's  Varituuk  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  that  shows  him  playing  an  instrumental  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2014  ep  "I,  Varituuk".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  ep  and  they  bring  a post  rock  feeling  to  the  recording  and  after  awhile  the  music  slowly  starts  to  go  into  more  of  a  slow,  heavy  and  melodic  doom  metal  direction  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  the  music  starts  to  get  more  upbeat  and  starts  to  add  in  elements  of  black  metal  along  with  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  as  the song  progresses  there  is  a  good  mixture  of  slow  and  mid  paced  parts.



  On  this  recording  Varituuk  brings  in  a  12  minute  track  that  is  also  the  only  song  on  the  ep  and  keeps  everything  instrumental  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  mixture  of  both  doom  and  black  metal  to  create  the  musical  sound  that  is  presented  on  the  recording  and  the  production  has  a  very  dark  and  raw  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Varituuk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  both  black  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  8  out  of  10.

Varituuk/H/2013 EP Review

  Varituuk  are  a  band  from  Canada  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  the  musical  direction  this  time  around  being  a  mixture  of  black  metal  and  noise  and  the  ep  was  self  released  in  2013  and  called  "H".

  "Alone"  opens  up  with  distorted  sounds  along  with  some  synths  and  a  minute  alter  drum  beats  start  coming  in  and  out  of  the  song  as  well  as  some  natural  sounding  noises  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  depressive  black  metal  guitar  riffs  are  added  into the  song  along  with  some  grim  suicidal  screams  and  as  time  goes  on  by  it  goes  into  a  more  mid  paced  direction  while  mostly  sticking  to  slower  parts  as  well  as  adding  melody  into  the  guitar  riffing  and  towards  the  end  elements  of  ambient  drone  are  added  into  the  song.

  Song  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  only  song  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  with  its  21  minutes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  black  metal  with  elements  of  noise,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Varituuk/Gamogenesis/2013 Demo Review

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Varituuk  with  the  musical  style  this  time  around  being  an  instrumental  mixture  of   experimental, drone,  noise  and  funeral  doom  with  the  demo  being  self  released  in  2013  and  called  "Gamogenesis".

  "Gamogenesis"  begins  with  some  noise  effects  and  samples  and  after  awhile  guitar  riffs  and  drums  become  a  part  of  the  song  and  take  it  into  a  more  doom  metal  direction  as well  as  changing  around  the  riffing  at  times  and  adding  in  some  melody  as  well  as  bringing  in  more  ambient,  experimental  and  drone  elements  but  keeping  around  the  doom  metal  guitar  riffs  but  those  elements  take  over  after  awhile  which  leads  to  the  song  taking  a  more  harsh  noise  sound  and  after  awhile  the  drums  come  back  as  well  as  the  guitars  which  also  take  the  music  into  a  lo-fi  doom  direction  and  a  few  minutes  later  the  dark  ambient/drone  sounds  do  make  a  return  and  mix  in  with  the  guitars  and  the  demo  closes  with  more  ambient,  drone  and  noise  sounds.

  Song  lyrics  and  vocals  are  all  absent  from   the  recording  with  the  music,  being  all  instrumental,  while  the  production  has,  a  very  raw,  dark  and  heavy  sound  with  the  only  song  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Varituuk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  drone,  noise  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED.

  This  is  another  review  of  a  recording  from  Varituuk  with  the  musical  style  this  time  around  returning  to  instrumental  black  metal  with  the  demo  being  self  released  in  2012  and  called  "F">

  "F1"  begins  with  heavy  black  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  and  as  the  song  moves  on  it  goes  more  into  a  depressive  black  metal  direction  but  the  drums  do  start  speeding  up  after  awhile  and  the  riffs  get  more  diverse  while  remaining  true  to  black  metal.

  "F2"  begins  with  some  mid  paced  and  primitive  black  metal  guitar  riffs  along  with  some  drums  and  a  minute  later  there  is  a  brief  use  of  blast  beats  being  utilized  before  returning  to  a  more  mid  paced  direction  but  getting  fast  again  in  certain  sections.

  ''F3"  begins  with  some  slow  guitar  riffs  and  drums  and  then  the  song  gets  slightly  faster  as  time  moves  by  but  for  the  most  part  it  stays  more  in  a  mid  paced  direction  but  closes  with  some  slower  riffing.

  "F4"  begins  with  some  soft  acoustic  guitars  and  this  is  an  all  acoustic  instrumental.

  Song  lyrics  and  vocals  are  all  absent  from  this  recording  with  the  music  being  all  instrumental,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound.

  In  my  opinion t his  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Varituuk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  instrumental  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "F1"  and  "F3".  RECOMMENDED.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Varituuk  with  the  musical  style  this  time  around  being  an  instrumental  mixture  of  drone,  dark  ambient,  noise,  and  doom  metal with  the  demo  being  self  released  in 2012  and  called  "E".

  "E"  begins  with  with  some  dark  ambient  drone  sounds  and  a  minute  later  the  guitar  riffs  and  drums  kick  in  and  take  the  song  into  a  more  doom  metal  direction  while  keeping  some  loops  in  the  background  and  few  minutes  later  the  guitar  riffs  start  adding  into  alot  more  darkness  and  towards  the  end  the  song  goes  into  a  more  dark  ambient  direction.

  Song  lyrics  and  vocals   are  all  absent  from  this  recording  with  the  music  being  all  instrumental,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  heavy,  and  primitive  sound  with  the  only  song  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  demo  from  Varituuk  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  drone,  noise,  ambient  and  doom  metal.  RECOMMENDED.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Varituuk  with  the  musical  style  drone,  noise  and  doom instead  of  black  metal  this  time  around  and  this  demo  was  self  released  in  2012  and  called  "D".

  "D"  begins  with  some  drone  style  guitar  riffs  and  stay  in  that  direction  for  5  minutes  before  going  into  a  doom  metal  direction  while  also  adding  a  good  amount  of  variety  to  the  riffing,around  the  13  minute  mark  the  song  goes  back  to  a  dark  ambient/drone  sound  along  with  some  elements  of  noise  


  Song  lyrics  and  vocals  are  all  absent  form  this  recording  with  the  music  being  all  instrumental,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  heavy  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  only  song  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  while  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  recording  from  Varituuk  some  people  might  not  enjoy  it  since  it  is  not  black  metal  like  their  previous  material,  but  if  you  are  a  fan  of  drone,  noise  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  this  out.  RECOMMENDED.

Varituuk/C/2012 Demo Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Varituuk  with  the  musical  style  this  time  around  being  a  raw  and  primitive  form  of  instrumental  black  metal  and  the  demo  was  self  released  in  2012  and  called  "C".

  "C"  begins  with  some  dark  ambient  metal  style  guitar  riffs along  with  some  sound  effects  in  the  background  and  a  minute  later  drums  kick  in  and  the  song  goes  more  into  a  fast  and  primitive  black  metal  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  before  switching  to  a  more  mid  paced  and  slow  direction  and  then  making  switches  back   and  forth  between  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Around  the  6  minute  mark  again  the  riffs  start  changing  around  while  still being  in  a  slow  black  metal  direction  but  bringing  in  some  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  small  amount  of  melodic  riffing  and  the  riff  changes  again  around  the  10  minute  mark  and  brings  back  some  blast  beats  along  with  some  more  raw  and  primitive  elements.

  Around  the  13  minute  mark  the  riff  changes  around  again  but  remains  in  the  fast  and  primitive  black  metal  direction  while  also  slowing  down  at  times  as  well  as  bringing  in  more  mid  paced  that  have  a  more  traditional  metal  feeling  to  them,  around  the  17  minute  mark  the  music  slows  down  and  you  can  hear  some  ambient  and  drone  elements  being  utilized  which  are  in  there  for  a  few  minutes  and  also  close  the  demo.

  Song  lyrics  and  vocals  are  all  absent  from  this  recording  with  the  music  being  all  instrumental,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  only  song  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vanituuk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  primitive,  instrumental  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED.

Varituuk/B/2012 Demo Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Varituuk  with  the  musical  style  this  time  around  being an  instrumental  form  of  depressive  black  metal  with  the  demo  being  self  released  and  called  "B".

  "B1"  begins  with  some  heavy  depressive  black  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drum  beats  and  as  times  goes  by  the  song  starts  mixing  in  atmospheric  elements  and  the  song  for  the  most  part  stays  in  the  same  musical  direction  for  9  minutes  before  another  guitar  riff  comes  up  that  is  also in  the  slow  depressive  direction  but  does  go  into  a  mid  paced  direction  at  times  and  a  few  minutes  later  the  riffing  starts  changing  around  again  while  still  remaining  true  to  depressive  black  metal  and  a  few  minute  later  the  song  starts  mixing  in  elements  of  drone  and  towards  the  end  there  are  some  chants,  sound  effects  and  synths  brought  into  the  music.

  'B2"  begins  with  some  slow,  depressive  black  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drum  beats  and  a  couple  of  minutes  later  the  song  speeds  up  a  bit  and  brings  in  some  blast  beats  before  going  into  a  more  mid  paced  direction  as  will  as  keeping  around  the  slower  riffs  but  at  times  it  does  speed  up  again  as  well  as  bringing  in  primitive  elements  and  the  demo  closes  with  some  clean  playing.


  Vocals  and  songwriting  are  all  absent  from  this  recording  with  the  music  being  mostly  instrumental,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  both  of  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  demo  from  Varituuk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  instrumental,  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "B1".  RECOMMENDED.

Varituuk/A/2012 Demo Review

  Varituuk  are  a  1  man  band  from  Canada  that  plays  an  instrumental  form  of  black  metal  on  this  recording  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  demo  "A"  which  was  released  in  2012.

  "A"  begins  with  some  black  metal  guitar  riffing  and  drums  along  with  some  distorted  bass  guitars  in  the  background  and  the  riffing  gets  more  dark  and  atmospheric  as  time  moves  by  as  well  as  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  mid  paced  sections  while  also  adding  some  melody  in  the  riffing  and  bringing  noise  effects  at  certain  times  which  also  leads  to  the  song  adding  in  elements  of  doom  metal,  around  the  6  minute  mark  the  song  gets  fast  for  awhile  and  adding  some  blast  beats  briefly  before  slowing  down  but  the  blast  beats  and  fast  parts  do  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  song,,  and  as  time  goes  by  there  are  a  variety  of  many  different  riffs  being  utilized  that  take  elements  from  the  various  sub  genres  of  true  black  metal,  around  the  24  minute  mark  there  is  a  brief  use  of  synths  before  the  song  goes  into  a  slower  black  metal  direction  while  alos  keeping  around  the  synths

  Song  lyrics  are  all  absent  from  this  recording  with  the  music  being  all  instrumental,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  only  song  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Varituuk  are  a  very  great  sounding  instrumental  black  metal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED.
