Bergatagen Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Svartgrimme: Just 3 massive Trolls that drank a whole bunch of mead, killed some christians and
listened to Troll- Drep De Kristne and decided to start a band with less humpa like the most
mumintrolls in the scene have and with more vile trollishness in the music.

2.Recently you have released your first full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

Svartgrimme: Mainly 90s Black Metal and of course a pinch of "Drep De Kristne", an album that have way too much  synthesizers for the purist, but we don´t care, we´re Trolls not raccoons!

Huggsint: I wrote all the songs and as for inspiration it was to make very fierce black metal that never loose the energy. There are no filler tracks. All tracks serves their purpose. I am very pleased with how it took shape. It is a good balance between troll brutality and melodies.

3.According the the metal archives page, the band was formed this year and has already released a full length, was the music already written before the band formed?

Svartgrimme: No, everything was made in one week I think including the bandname. artwork, logo, lyrics and so on.

Huggsint: The music was written and recorded in 2 days. We captured a moment of pure inspiration and went with it.

4.A lot of your lyrics deal with a troll concept, can you tell us a little bit more about the songwriting?

Svartgrimme: Well it´s about Trolls, the elderly kind that inflicted fear and terror upon mankind in the old times of Scandinavia, and when the humans for some reasons became christened they still feared the Trolls to the point that they were classified as a demonic entity.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Bergatagen'?

Svartgrimme: Bergatagen is another way to spell Bergtagen and it´s a spellbinding that trolls and other supernatural nature entities use to entice humans for their charmingly evil schemes.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

Svartgrimme: The artwork is made by Tim Nordstedt, and it was brilliant for the cause, kind of a reversed marketing, present the scene with something that looks cheesy and weirdly made and have a whole bunch of colours in it, still the outline works is made as the classics "Dark Medieval Times, "Det Som Engang Var" and so on and then splash a whole bunch of colors on it, it worked! alot of people checked out our album because of it, loads of them where curious and wondered what the fuck that was, some really like it and some Black Metal People got offended but most of them stayed because of the music.

Huggsint: I love the artwork. It fits the music perfectly. I don't find is cheesy. People who think so have not grown up with classic metal albums. Our audience is obviously not the trendy black metal crowed.

7.Has the band had any opportunities to do any live shows and also are there are plans for shows in the future?

Svartgrimme: Bergatagen will Never play live!

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Svartgrimme: If we feel that there is a label that seems to have at least a couple of functioning braincells and can work with us then we´ll jump at the opportunity, there have been offers but we´re not desperate!

Huggsint: If we get the right deal of course it is interesting to hook up with a label. We have gotten a tremendous amount of people asking for a CD.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Svartgrimme: Surprisingly positive actually!

Huggsint: It has been received very well. But to me it is not really a surprise since the album is very good. If you want troll black metal - you will get troll black metal for all your moneys worth.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Svartgrimme: No one knows until the time is right, but probably more Trollishness, vileness, homebrewed mead, churchcrushings, humangrilling, forestshitting and cavefuckery.

Huggsint: I have endless inspiration. These trolls will bash down your towns.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Svartgrimme: Well Troll, and a whole bunch of Black Metal bands but usually Huggsint is improvising violently with some guitar swinging and the rest of us just backs it up jacked up on Fly Agaric and christblood sniffing rage.

Huggsint: Good underground classic black metal and the ones who maintain that feel, like we do. That is what I listen to.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Svartgrimme: DEATH TO FALSE TROLLS! ALL HAIL THE TRUE SCANDINAVIAN TROLLHORDE!

Huggsint: Thanks for the interview! It was a pleasure.

Bergatagen/Barsarkatoner/2019 Full Length Review

Bergatagen  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  trollish  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  album  "Barsarkatoner".

Epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  which  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

A  great  amount  of  melody  can  also  he  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  also  has  a  lot  of  90's  influences  but  done  in  a  more  modern  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  clean  vocals  are  also  added on  the  tracks.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  folk  elements.  As  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  on  one  track  the  guitar  riffing  also  adds  in  some  thrash  influences  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  production  sounds  very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  Trolls.Anti  Christian  and  Anti  Human  themes.

In  my  opinion  Begatagen  are  a  very  great  sounding  troll  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Stendstoder  Vackas  Svart  Blod"  "Bland  Fanskap  Och  Otyg"  and  "Kyrkklockorna  Klamtar  Aldrig  Mer".  8/5  out  of  10.
