Malauriu/The Third Nail/Adirondack Black Mass/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Italy's  Malauriu  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw  and  occult  mixture  of  black  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "The  Third  Nail"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Adirondack  Black  Mass.

  A  horror  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  also  introducing  keyboards  onto  the  album  which  also  makes  a  brief  return  on  a  couple  of  the  later  tracks.  Elements  of  punk  rock  can  also  be  heard in  some  of  the  riffing along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  of  the  genre  mixed  in  with  a  more  modern  take  on  the  genre.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  more  of  a  90's  style  and  blast  beats  are  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  give  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  ritualistic  chants  and  the  album  closes  with  a  GG  Allin  cover.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Thelema,  Occultism,  Satanism,  Death  and  Anti  Monotheism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Malauriu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Empowerment  Rites"  "Satanic  Witch"  and  "Monotheistic  Filth".  8  out  of  10.

Malauriu/Sinoath/Scuru/Symphony Of The Scythe/Doomentia Records/2025 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Italy's  Malauriu  and  Sinoath  called  "Scuru/Symphony  Of  The  Scythe"  which  will  be  released  in  2025  by  Doomentia  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Malauriu  who  returns  with  an  experimental  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  rain  and  thunder  sounds  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  music  also  getting  very  experimental  at  times,  whispered  vocals  are  also  added  towards  the  end.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  and  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  death  and  human  misery  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Malauriu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Sinoath  a  band  that  plays  a  progressive  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  clean  playing  and  dark  soundscapes  before  going  into  a  heavier  doom  metal  direction.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  vocals  are  mostly high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  song  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  progressive  sounding  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  more  of  an  old  school  death  metal  style,  chants  are  also  added  towards  the  end.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  and  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sinoath  are  a  very  great  sounding  progressive  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Italian  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Italy's  Maluriu  and  Lykten  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Nero  Corvino  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Maluriu  who  return  with  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal.

 

 Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  rain,  thunder  sounds  and  dark  soundscapes  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  a  few  seconds  later.  Chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  music  also  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  true  an  old  school  style  and  their  side  of  the  split  closes  with  a  Devo  cover,  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  metal  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malauriu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Goat  Metal".

  Next  up  is  Lykten  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal.

 

 His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  along  with  some  heavy  riffing  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  At  times  the  vocals  go  into  a  deeper  direction  long  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era,  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  synths  are  added  on  the  outro.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  folk  tales  and  myths.

  In  my  opinion  Lykten  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Siege".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Malauriu/Self Titled/Southern Hell Records/2022 CD Review

 

  Italy's  Malauriu  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  moving  away  from  black  metal  and  going  for  more  of  a  mixture  of  experimental,  dark  ambient  and  ritual  with  some  touches  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2022  album.

  Ritualistic  percussion  and  dark  ambient  style  synths  and  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ethnic  and  tribal  style  singing and  chants  a  few  seconds  later.  All  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  music  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of  a  horror  movie  soundtrack  at  times.

  Programmed  beats  can  also b e  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  some  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.  When  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they  also  enhance  the  ritualistic  and  occult  atmosphere  of  the  music  and  the  album  also  has  its  experimental  moments.

  Electric  guitars  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  some  operatic  female  vocals  also  being  utilized  briefly  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  samples,  touches  of  Mediterranean  music  can  also  be  heard  at  times,  all  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  small  amount  of  psychedelic  sounds  can  also  be  heard  and  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malauriu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  dark  ambient  and  ritual  that  also  captures  the  darkness  of  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Morto  Era  L'Oro"  and  "L'Oro  S'e  Fatto".  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  3  way  split  album  between  Italy's  Malvento,  Malauriu  and  Japan's  Abigail  which  was  released  on  cassette  by  Staring  Into  Darkness  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Malvento  who  return  with  their  occult  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  synth  orientated  intro  which  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in a   decent  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  music  is  also  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  tremolo  picking  also  giving  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  it  is  utilized.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  Esotericism  and  Occultism  themes.

  Next  up  is  Abigail  who  return  with  their  old  school  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark,  heavy  and  old  school  sound  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  presented  on  their  side  of  the  recording.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in an  80's  style  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  elements  of  thrash  and  speed  metal.

  Touches  of t he  first  wave  era  can be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  vocals  also  being  done  in  a  very  old  school  black  emtal  screaming  style  as  well  as  the  music  also  sticking  mostly  to  a  faster  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  War,  Death  and  Sex  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Abigail  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Gods  of  Khaos  Endless  War".

  Closing  the  split  is  Malauriu  who  return  with  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  horror  movie  samples  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  myths,  legends  and  traditions  from  Sicily.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Malauriu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  misanthropic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up is  Fordomth  a  band  that  moves away  from the  blackened  funeral  doom  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  goes  for  more  of  a  raw  and  straightforward  style  of  black  metal  with  their  song.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  grim  black  metal  screams  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats,  elements  of  funeral  doom  metal  can  still  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  music  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  grim  growls.  The  production  sounds  very  dark and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  myths,  legends  and  traditions  from  Sicily.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal  with  a  touch  of  funeral  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of t he  split.

  In  conclusion  I  fell  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw,  occult  and  misanthropic  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  4  way  split  album  between  A'  Repit,  Inferen,  Malauriu  and  Vultur  called  "Teschi  Ossa  Morte"  which  will  be  released  in  March  as  a  joint  effort  between  Black Tears, The  Triad  Rec,  Southern  Hell  Records,  Ira  Aeterna,  Masked  Dead Records, Nebelkorps  and The  Last  Step  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  A'  Repit  who  return  with  their  epic  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  grim  black  metal  screams  before  adding  in  some  heavy  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  clean  vocals  also  being  used  briefly.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.  Acoustic  guitars  and  flutes  are  also  added  on  the  second  track.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  History,  Alpine  Traditions  and  Legends.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  from  A'  Repit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  epic  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Ventre  di  lupo".

 Next  up  is  Inferen  who  return  with  their  traditional  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  melodic  sound  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  also  brings  in a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  dark  and  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  both  of  their  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  Apocalypse,  Darkness,  Evil,  Visions  and  Doom  Themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Inferen  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  traditional  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Volti  di  pietra".

  Next  up  is  Malauriu  who  return  with  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  demonic  growls  along  with  the  music  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's.

  At  times  the  music  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  war  metal  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  synths  also  being  added   onto  the  second  track  briefly  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  style.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  death  and  human  misery  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malauri  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  fast,  raw  and  aggressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Narcotic  Cult.

  Closing  this  split  is  Vultur  a  band  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  piking  and  blast  beats.  Their  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  style  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  their  song  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  towards  the  end  ritualistic  soundscapes  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  Sardinian  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vultur  are  a  very  great  sounding  fast,  raw  and  melodic  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Italian  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

  A very  dark,  psychedelic  and  ritualistic  intro  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal s creams  along  with  the  music  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  on  some  of  the  tracks  as  well  as  the  songs  sounding  like  they  could  of  easily  been  recorded  and  released  more  than  20  years  ago.

  Malauriu  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  Occultism,  Death  and  Human  Misery  themes.

Malauriu/Semper Ad Mortem Cogitantes/War Kommand Productions/2017 CD Review

  Italy's  Malauriu  have  returned  with  a  new  recording   that  continues  the  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Semper  Ad  Mortem  Cogitantes"  which  was  released  by  War  Kommand  Productions.

  A  very  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  spoken  word  parts  while  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  ritualistic  sounding  synths  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction  along  with  some  the  vocals  adding  in  more  aggression  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in t he  90's.

  At  times  the  vocals  utilize  a  semi  melodic  tone  along  with  some  whispers  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling.

  The  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  synths  also  make  a  brief  return  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Malauriu  creates  another  recording that  remains  true  to  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  while  also  having  a  vocal  approach  that  is  more  different  than  most  bands  of  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  Death,  Human  Misery  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malauriu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Iusta  Funebria"  and  "Occulta  Ars".  8  out  of  10.

Malauriu/Heretical/Iam Mors Regnant/Zolfo/2017 Split 7 Inch Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Italy's  Malauri  and  Heretical  called  "Iam  Mors  Regnant"  which  was  released  by  Zolfo  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Malauriu  making  a  return  with  their  raw  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  that  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful.

  The  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  second  wave  infleunces  and  the  song  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death  and  human  misery  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Malauriu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  song.

  Next  up  is  Heretical  a  band  that  plays  a  very  symphonic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  wth   blast  beats  along  with  some  heavy  guitars,  symphonic  elements  and  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  operatic  female  vocals  are  also  utilized  briefly.

  A  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  can  be  heard  in  their  track  while  the  music  is  more  rooted  in  the  90's  style  of  symphonic  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  to  the  point  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occult  Philosophy  and  Suicide  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Heretical  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  symphonic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out their  song.

  In  conclussion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Italian  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Italy's  Malauriu  and  Circle  Of  The  Last  Promontory  called  "Media  Vit  In  Morte Sumus"  which  was  released  by  Land  Of  Fog  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Malauriu  a  band  that h as  been  featured  before  in this  zine  and   plays  a  very raw  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side of the  split  starts  out  with  spoken  word  parts  and  traces  of  classical music  and  after  the  intro  the  music  starts  going  into  more  a  heavier  musical  direction  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  brings  in  a  great  amount  of tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  that  also  takes  the  music  into more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  direction.

 Vocals a re  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  some  of  the  riffing  brings  in a  small  amount  of  melody  while  the  music is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  last  track  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  death  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death  and  human  misery  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording from  Malauriu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of r aw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Malauriu"  and  "Deus  Mortuorum".  8  out  of 10.

  Next  up  is  Circle  Of  The  Last  Promontory  a  solo  project  that  plays  an  ambient  form  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  distorted guitar  sound  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  and  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  the  music  at  times   and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  atmospheric  style.

  When  synths  are  utilized  they  bring  in  elements  of  ambient  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  either  to  a  slow  or  mid  paced  musical  direction  while  also  speeding  up  briefly  and  bringing  in  a  brief  use  of  blast  beats  and tremolo  picking  that  also  gives  the  music  more  of a  raw  black  metal  feeling,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Circle  Of  The  Last  Promontory  are  a  very  great  sounding  ambient  black  metal  solo project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Rainy  Solstice"  and  "Free  And  Indipendent".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I would  recommend  it  to all  fans  of  raw  and  ambient  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Malauriu/Eternu Duluri/2015 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Italy's  Malauriu  and  Eternu  Duluri  which  was  self  released  in  2015  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Malauriu  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  off  with  drum  beats  and  ritualistic  sounding  bells  and  winds  and  after  the  intro  the  music  starts  going  into  more  of  a  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  grim  screams  that  also  have  a  hateful  edge  to  them  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  you  can  also  hear  a  slight  thrash  influence  at  times  and  the  last  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Latin  and  cover  cover  death,  human  and  misery.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malauriu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Putrefazione".

    Next up  is  Eternu  Duluri  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  off  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  before  slowing  down  a  bit  and  adding  in  small  amounts  of  melody  and  it  also  gives  the  music  a  depressive  feeling  at  times  and  the  2  later  tracks  also  bring  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  bass  guitar  having  a  very  powerful  sound  and  the  last  track  also  adds  in  some  atmospheric  elements,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Eternu  Duluri  are  a  very  great  sounding  dark  and  raw  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Viti  Spizzati".  8  out  of  10.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  the  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal  genres.  8  out  of  10.

Malauriu Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Malauriu was born in 2013 from an ideo of Asmodeus (guitars, bass, keyboards and songwriter)

The band was set up with the idea of playing raw black metal inspired by the scene of the early 90’s

We are from Western Sicily and at the moment we have just released of debut EP entitled “Presagi di Morte”

2.Recently you have released a new ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction you have taken with this recording?

With this EP we have created and tested a sound withi are indeed still consolidating: raw and direct black metal with no innovation nor sound’s experimentation. To put it simple who is looking form technical and polished blackmeal should look elsewhere, on the contrary who is eager of old school black metal is welcome. We still have to work on defining our sound and on improving some things here and there, nevertheless the ep is getting positive review and is quite appreciated by the listeners.

3.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?

The lyrics  are mostly about death, hatred, sorrow and religion.

4.The band members named themselves  Asmodeus, Otis and Marbas all goetic demon names, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in Occultism?

I have been always fascinated by Occultism. Over the year I have broaden my knowledge on the matter through books and researches. I am still pretty much into the matter.

5.I know that the band name means 'bad/ill omen' in Sicilian, what was the decision behind using it as a band name?

I (Asmodeus) am really attached to my homeland so I decided to use this term which is part of the Sicilian culture.

I did not really want to use the usual and trite Englishe names. Maybe Malauriu is a name quite difficult to grab outside of Sicily as there is not direct/simple translation but I don’t quite care about that.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We have never performed live so far and yet we don’t have a live line up. Despite that we have got some offers to play live and we are evaluating them.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

For now live shows are not a priority of ours

8.The new ep came out on Melqart productions, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Melqart Productions is a tiny label of ours through which we publish our material until the time we find a better label seriously interested into our music.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

On a worldwide level we have received very positive reviews, every day we get mails from every corner of the globe of people that show interest in our EP. We are happy about it and we do hope that in future we will be producing material released by a label that will make our discs circulate abroad as much as possibile

10.What is going on with the other musical project these days that the guitar player is involved with?

Urlo Nero is currently on stand by as we are fully dedicated to Malauriu. Maybe we will release another already recorded work under the name Urlo Nero, but it’s not sure yet-

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

I see a frutiful future ahead of us, we already have many new ideas to record!.

12.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I have been influenced by so many bands, so many that I won’t be listing them. Let’s say that I have great respect for the pillars of black metal, especially those which contributed to create  the very first scene in Norway. Also the  first wave of Italia black metal was a remarkable influence for me. Currently I have been listening a lot to Peste Noire and Inquisition. Furthermore I do listen to some other genres that have a certain degree of influence on my music.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?

Besides music I do like reading and watching movies

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
