Moon Of The Wind/No Point In Living/CHILD : OF : ILLNESS/2025 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  self  released  split  album  between  Ukraine's  Moon  Of  The  Wind  and  Japan's  No  Point  In  Living  called  "CHILD : OF : ILLNESS"  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Moon  Of  The  Wind  a  solo  project  that h as  been  featured  before  in t his  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  and  depressive  form  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  clean  playing  along  with  some  ambient  style  keyboards  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Most  of  his  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams,  at  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  spoken  words  and  whispers  also  being  utilized  briefly,  melodies  can  also  be  heard  at  times,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  some  acoustic  guitars  being  used  at  times  and  female  vocal samples  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  suicide,  depression,  nature  and  isolation.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Moon  Of  The  Wind  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Anesthesia  & Nameless".

  Next  up  is  No  Point  In  Living  a  solo  project  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  very  progressive  form  of  depressive  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  sound  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  while  the  clean  playing  also  adds  in  a  progressive  touch  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  sticking  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  as  well as  the  synths  also  adding  in  elements  of  ambient  when  they  are  utilized.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nihilism,  self-hatred,  depression  and  life  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  No  Point  In  Living  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive  and  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Echoes  Of  The  Sun"  and  "Haunted".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  atmospheric,  progressive  and  depressive  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Moon Of The Wind Interview

 

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?

::: I created the project to pour out emotions and show my traumas through the lens of abstract metaphors, or like on the early albums - pure sentimentalism. For me, it's like a personal diary in which I describe my experiences.

2.Recently you have released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

::: I started experimenting more with other “instruments”, and wanted to open up the boundaries of my inner perception to open up more to the listener. And suffering takes a lot of energy to record. For example, in “Angels Around The Wounded Me” I conveyed an image that had been in my head for a long time through playing the guitar with a bow. It was also the first time I decided to use the acoustic guitar for expression. The melodies came from my mind, it's hard to say anything specific.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore with the newer music and also how would you describe your progress as a songwriter over the years?

::: I build up complex constructions of different images, different words that have been extracted from my past. These can be traumas, self-harm (fortunately, I don't do it now, thanks to the hospital), dependence on a person, difficult life circumstances, etc. All taken, sadly, from my own life. Over time, I started progressing pretty quickly in writing lyrics, in music, gaining experience. It realizes what's wrong with the music, and you fix it automatically, and that's how you progress. I have better music equipment now, and in case of anything, I can rent what I need.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Moon Of The Wind'?

::: The moon is a symbol of the arrival of negativity. And the wind is a current of alienation, rays of melancholy. The title is about a tendency that I myself have. It's that state that suddenly catches you and you are torn, powerless against this current. Inspired by myself.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

::: It's a collage of a few photos. My abstract stain painting, a park near my last apartment, and me with my scars. If you look closely, you can see all these elements. I didn't give any symbolism, rather I wanted to unite what was hovering around me.

6.Currently you record all the music by yourself but have had other members in the past, do you prefer to work solo?

::: The other participants were friends of mine that I invited without meaning to. They were ghostly, in a way. Because there was no point in keeping them, they left on their own. And yes, I like to work alone. There is no one who knows better how to describe a thing that is part of you. Basically, I am an asocial person, an introvert. I don't have many close people to work with now. And there is also the question of whether we will find common interests.

7.The new album was self released but you have worked with 'Depressive Illusions' and 'Funeral Music Group' in the past, are you open to working with another label again in the future?

::: I gave up on “Funeral Music Group” a long time ago, I don't want to work with them after I left the occupation of my town. And “Depressive Illusions Records” is pretty small for my purposes. However, I've been looking for labels to release the album, but I never heard a positive answer. I had planned to release it on CD and vinyl (2LP), but no luck. However, I am open to suggestions.

8.On o worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of atmospheric and depressive black metal?

::: A lot of people liked it, I think it's a good combination. If you do it right, as with other genres, you can make something interesting and poignant.

9.Do you have any experience playing on other bands or musical projects?

::: Except for local bands (not black metal), I haven't played anywhere else, although I wouldn't mind. The main thing is to have common thoughts and a common concept.

10.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

::: At any rate, I'll be progressing in sound engineering and writing music. What will happen next, I don't know. Maybe I'll create another project entirely. But for now, I'm just doing “Moon Of The Wind”.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

::: Hypothermia, Apati, Trist, Wedard, Psychonaut 4, Burzum, The Angelic Process, Natural Snow Buildings. I'm listening to a lot of different music right now. From drone ambient to avant-garde. I'm a music lover in general.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts? 

::: The advice is to never leave yourself to suffer. Suffering is the most terrible thing. Try to get out of the pit and go to a specialist. I have been struggling with mental illness, trauma, my inner instability for so many years. And unfortunately, I was pretty late in seeking help. Everything I do is a consequence of everything that's happened to me. I wish all listeners and non-listeners good luck.

  Moon  Of  The  Wind  are  a  solo  project  from  Ukraine  that  plays  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  depressive  black  metal  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  album  "Soul  Through  The  Broken  Paths".

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  angry  shouts  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts while  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs.  Clean  playing  is  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  synths  also  bringing  i n   elements  of  dark  ambient  when  they  are  utilized  and  some  of  the  songs  are  also instrumentals,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  clear  singing   as  well  as  some  whispers  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  self  reflection  and  depression  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  Moon  Of  The  Wind  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  mixture  of  depressive  black  metal  and  dark  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Howling  Sleep In  Meaningless"  "To  Fevered  Mind  -  Warmth  That  Will  Come  True"  and  "Freezing  Weather  In  the  Fall".  8  out  of  10.
