Nekrokraft/Witches Funeral/Return Of The Kvlt/The Sign Records/2020 Double Singles Review

  Sweden's  Nekrokfaft  have  returned  with  2  singles  that  where  originally  released  in  2018  but  re-recorded  in  2020  and  continues  their  raw  and  melodic  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  the  singles  will  be  released  in  August  by  The  Sign  Records  and  the  songs  songs  will  be  reviewed  separately  from  each  other.

  "Witches  Funeral"

  The  song  starts  out  with  some  rain,  thunder  sounds  and  horror  movie  style  keyboards  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  song  also  sticking  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  style The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  folklore  and  occultism  themes.

  "Return  Ov  The  Kvlt".

  The  song  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  while  the  riffs  also  show  an  influence  of  death  and  thrash  metal.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  song  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Folklore  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  these  are  both  very  great  sounding  tracks  from  Nekrokraft  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  melodic  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  these  singles.  8  out  of  10.

Nekrokraft/Servants/The Sign Records/2018 CD Review

  Sweden's  Nekrokraft  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  that  continues  their  raw  and  melodic  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Servants"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  The  Sign  Records.

  Black  metal  screams  along  with  some  dark  and  heavy  riffs  start  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  fast  sections  of  the  songs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Death  metal  growls  are  also  used  at  times  while t he  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  melodic  chants  and keyboards  are  utilized  they  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  elements  and  when  guitar  solos and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  extreme  metal  style  and  one  track  also  brings  clean  guitars  onto  the  recording. 

  On  this  recording  Nekrokraft  expand  on  their  raw  and  melodic  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  by  adding  keyboards  on  some  of  the  tracks  to  create  something  different  from t heir  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Babylonian  and  Scandinavian  Folklore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Nekrokraft  and  if  you  are  a f an  of r aw  and  melodic  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mouth  Ov  Ahriman"  "Servants  ov  The  black"  "Eternal,  I  Am"  and  "Plague".  8  out  of  10.

  Nekrokraft  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  melodic  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  compilation  album  "Witches  Funeral"  which  will  be  released  in  2018  by  The  Sign  Records  and  consists  of  earlier  demos,  unreleased  tracks  and  a  couple  of  covers.

  A  very  heavy  and  old  school  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  the  faster  sections  of t he  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  riffs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  elements  and  melodies  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  they  also  bring  in  covers  of  Bathory's  "Satan  My  Master"  and  Slayer's  "Angel  Of  Death"  as  well  as also  bringing  in  influences  from  the  80's  and  90's  and  taking  it  into  a  more  modern  direction.

  On  this  recordings  Nekrokraft  plays  a  style  of  Swedish  death  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  melodic  and  also  mixes  it  with  death  and  thrash  metal  to  create  a  sound  of their own,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Folklore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Nekrokraft  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  melodic  black,  death and  thrash metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Burning  Ov"  "Upon  A  Throne"  "Return  Of  The  Kvlt"  and  "Wrath  Of  The  Heavens".  8  out  of  10.

Nekrokraft Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
The band was formed in 2012 by Angst, DOC & Blaster with the ambition to play fast, aggressive blackened thrash metal. A couple of years have past and the lineup changed over the years, Blaster was replaced by Moloch and Iron & Ghol joined the band.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?
Nekrokraft is, and will always be an extreme metal band, the strength in our sound is the mix between black metal`s mysticism, the velocity of thrash metal and the brutality of death metal. Different personalities and different musical preferences is a part of what creates that strength mentioned above, we all have our addictions in life.

3.Between 2012 to 2016 there was no new material being released, can you tell us a little bit more about what was going on during that time frame?
Well, we had some member changes, wrote a bunch of new songs, and played some live gigs. And of course we planned and recorded Will O` Wisp.

4.Your lyrics deal with Folklore and Occultism, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?
Sweden/Scandinavia has a history rich in folklore, and we draw inspiration from those stories of old,
it’s our way of holding on to our legacy. The album title and song Will ‘o’ Wisp deals with the “Irrbloss” from swedish folklore, a glowing orb that lures unsuspecting people of the road, where they get lost and  follow the light towards a watery grave. There is a problem with certain religions, and that is their need to control people and the lack of free will. Occultism, in different forms, have provided somewhat of an antipole towards the backward pious kind. We embrace the so called “dark path” towards enlightenment, because knowledge and wisdom lies within curiosity, independence and creativity.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Nekrokraft'?
We came up with the name under the influence of alcohol, discussing occult themes in the rehearsal space one late night in april 2012. Nekro stands for death, and kraft in swedish means power/force.
Power of the dead, maybe something occult, magical comes to mind, we leave it free for one's mind to interpret.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has done so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
That's a tough question, we have done quite a few gigs since the beginning but we can mention some of the gigs. The Black Christmas festival had a great lineup (Mayhem, Marduk, Venom, Vader) and was also a great gig for us, and the show we played with God Dethroned amongst others in Stockholm the fall of 2016 was a really good gig. Otherwise there has been some really intense clashes in our hometown Linköping that turned out great. Our stage performance is intensive and full of energy, a real headbanging feast, the inspiration comes from the death & thrash metal scene rather than the black metal scene when it comes to the live show, high energy on stage, intensive crowd!

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Gefle metal festival is the next stop for us, great lineup this year by the way! We are hopefully heading out in europe this fall for some long weekend runs if everything works out the way we are planning.

8.'The Sign Records' are re-issuing your 2016 album, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
The Sign Records is an expansive record label composed of some of the most driven people here in Linköping. It consist of three formations that each carries its own essence. The Sign Records is managed by the Almost Religious label group based in Linköping, Sweden. We are pleased that we got the opportunity to work with people that are great, driven and has high ambitions for the music scene in Sweden.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and extreme metal?
Overall it has been great, we have people listening from almost all over the world and people reaching out showing their appreciation. We look forward to spread the Nekrokraft disease even further during 2017.

10.On the 2012 ep you had done a 'Bathory' cover, what was the decision behind doing your own version of this song?
You can consider it to be a celebration to the swedish old school metal. We wanted to do something raw, something extra, fitting in with the already rugged sound of the EP, and we all are big Bathory fans so we chose that path after a couple of beers.

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Angst our vocalist is a hard working man and is currently preparing for summer & fall gigs with Witchery. When it comes to the other band members there is some projects going on, but if those projects will see the light of day, we don't know, time will tell.

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
As mentioned before Nekrokraft is an extreme metal band and will always be. Musically we will continue to blend the black, thrash and the death metal to create our sound. We don't play by any rules when it comes to the creating of Nekrokraft material. This group of people is very versatile when it comes to music and creating, and that in particular is a great quality for us as a band.

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
It's very broadly spread across the different members but of course we have a lot of bands in common, some of the good classic extreme metal bands like Bathory, Dissection, Entombed, Morbid Angel and Slayer to name a few. Nowadays it's a bit more of thrash metal i would say as the summer approaches, summer, thrash metal and beer blends perfectly, and of course you got to listen to some good ole guitar oriented blues.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

  Blast  beats  along  with  some  fast  yet  raw  riffing that  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  starts  off the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  and  thrash  elements  a  few  seconds  later  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic   fashion.

  Death  metal  growls  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  synths  are  also  used  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  using  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  also  mixing  in  elements  of  classic  metal,

  You  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  and  when  acoustic  guitars  are  utilized  they  add  in  a  touch  of  folk  music  and  when  melodic  vocals are  utilized  briefly  on  one  of  the  later  tracks  they  give  the  music  a  more  ritualistic  feeling  and  they  also  make  an  old  school  style  sound  more  modern.
